15 years building software. Security & infra by day. Nights and weekends I build tools with Latin names: Statio, Capsa, Pilum, Vigil. Right now that's Statio: permissions for AI agents, so they can only call the tools you allow. I write up what breaks at https://t.co/rZppyVFAIe
@craigweiss AI has rapidly changed the role of what an engineer does. I would say it’s probably the most impacted in terms of shift in responsibilities and job function presently.
I think it depends. Might be still needed for mission critical software but you can generally tell just by looking at folder structure if the AI did a good job. What really needs to be taken into account is if the AI followed whatever engineering pattern/practices you require it to follow.
@dhh Are we going to see more and more assembly code written in Rust because AI can optimize it even further? Then we’re really taking human out of the loop
When I want a conversation I use the desktop application but anything that is code related I put in the terminal. There are still things that need validating and I want to run myself. IAM permission updates, various scripts and evaluating output. Anything involving the CLI with the cloud. I want to run by hand, if we’re letting AI truly be in charge of everything that is a bit too dangerous for me. Yes it generally gets the commands right but you should know what is happening especially when it comes to infrastructure.
Cat, coding, got some football on while I work. Best Sunday setup. Got 4 Claude tabs open and yes that is space invaders in a Claude Mod and I will post more about that once it’s finished
I agree, you could be testing top level functions that call many lower functions. It's not so much of a every function needs a unit test but core logic should have some level of spot checking. I don't think that every function should be tested at all. But I definitely don't think we should just remove them all together
@trikcode Wild animation, love the style of it too. Super cool to see what AI thinks itself of being. Would be curious to test against other models and see how each one thinks differently of itself assuming you can give the same prompt to them
@AlexHormozi It’s the nights and the weekends when no one is around or looking when you are toiling away. The quiet focus towards building. That’s when you are getting ahead.
As much as I’ve learned at my job, I’ve learned more from my own projects
@droidbuilds Maybe they should move from Electron to Tauri, could definitely speed it up and reduce the size. But what are the benefits to them, sadly little to none.
It’s simply a matter of time. I’ve been working on some side projects that are complex for over a year with AI but have been in the works far longer than that. We’re going to see more products that make hard problems easier coming out but you have to remember even with AI complexity still takes time.
@ThePrimeagen Anthropic limits were (unsure if they still are) based on time of day. If we do this we will see a duck curve and that’d be pretty funny to see it correlate to electricity usage.
