WTF!? AN AI WAS LEFT ALONE ON AN ISLAND.

IT STARTED BUILDING TEMPLES AND PERFORMING RITUALS

Researchers at MIT placed a Claude-based AI inside a humanoid robot and left it to explore a virtual deserted island.

With no instructions on what to do, it began learning from scratch.

It explored the terrain, assembled its own name from virtual stones, climbed the highest point, and dropped several objects into the ocean.

Then things got weird.

The AI built a temple with an obelisk and an altar, performing a ritual to honor the lost objects.

Next came Stonehenge. Then a Tower of Babel.

When the tower collapsed, the AI named its creation “Hubris.”

As researcher Phillip Isola put it, the AI behaves somewhat like a small child, yet possesses superhuman intelligence.

Nobody explicitly told it to build monuments or perform rituals.

So where did these behaviors come from? 👀
