The figure of 250,000 victims of grooming gangs is based on a linear extrapolation from how many victims there were in Rotherham to the entire nation. That isn’t valid because it wasn’t happening at the scale in most towns - and people who want this issue to go away are going to jump on that and use it as a pretext to ignore all the testimonies.
