fwiw, data science is a terrible name. It seems like it was supposed to relate to computer science as a broad term, but, following that, if data science is the theory branch, the industry application should be called something different, like, surprise, data engineering.

data people should all be called data engineers, then it should split in:

- backend data eng, the ones dealing with ETLs, warehouse modeling, and ML models deployment

- frontend data eng, the ones dealing with on demand KPI calculations, dashboards, and training ML models
