Feels like everything we love is being destroyed for profit. Rivers & hills that made the world beautiful? Sorry, inefficient. Mass literacy, the arts, the film industry? Easier to have machines do all that. Insects & trees that kept us alive? Being alive is costly, my friend.
I’d give anything to bring back a culture where people are passionate about learning. Shakespeare festivals, arthouse films, classic novels on the bestseller list. One of the hardest things you can do is keeping your mind sharp in a world bent on making you incurious and lazy.

People with chronic illness are often masters of “masking”
What I mean by masking is hiding what we’re really going through or the symptoms we are currently feeling.
We hide our symptoms behind smiles.
We say “ I’m fine” even though we’re definitely not feeling fine.
We downplay the pain, the dizziness, the fatigue, the brain fog, and so much more.
We do this because if we told the truth every time, people might stop asking, also for some of us, we know people don’t really care.
We do this for a lot of reasons—some emotional, some even neurological.
I’ve learned masking can be a coping mechanism, the brain tries to protect us from stress and social rejection by minimizing our outward signals of pain or distress.
But in reality.
We’re tired of being doubted. Tired of having to prove we’re sick.
We don’t want to seem “dramatic,” or make others uncomfortable.
We don’t want to be a burden and seem like were complaining.
The truth is, symptoms that would send most people to the ER are normal days for us, but none one believes it can be that bad all the time.
We push through migraines, nausea and joint pain because this is our normal.
We’ve learned to function while feeling like we’re falling apart, about to pass out, but we rarely show just how bad it really is.
Just because we look fine doesn’t mean we always are.
So if someone with a chronic illness opens up to you, believe them.
If you live with chronic pain, sometimes you don't realise how much pain you're in until you don't have the pain.
When we go to doctors saying we have pain, we've learnt to live with it, it's become normalised. I think the doctors expect us to crawl in on hands and knees screaming in agony.
But that's not socially acceptable. So we try to look normal, hiding our true pain.
Then they say - you don't look sick enough, you can’t win!
Bollinger et al. find that genetic predispositions in CYP2D6 and catechol-O-methyltransferase contribute to high pain sensitivity and analgesic therapy failure in a fibromyalgia patient, suggesting the need for further study. Learn more in #PainReports https://t.co/9qSqW6ily9
You will know you’re the scapegoat when you have a strong reaction to something hurtful done to you and the focus is on how you reacted vs. what caused you pain.
Min Liu et al. find that gender plays an important role in clinical presentations and sensory profiles in patients with fibromyalgia. Quantitative sensory testing reveals underlying peripheral and central mechanisms. Learn more in #PAIN https://t.co/uH5Vi450Vi
Long-term physical or emotional stress can contribute to the development of fibromyalgia, or it can exacerbate the symptoms of those already living with the condition. Chronic stress affects the body’s immune system and hormone levels, which may influence pain sensitivity.
Fibromyalgia is a complex condition with multiple potential causes. It is generally considered to involve a combination of genetic vulnerability, abnormalities in pain processing, environmental triggers (like infections or trauma), and psychological or emotional stressors.
Inflammation and food.
Harvard Health Education, Cleveland Clinic, Health Line, and other medical researchers have published studies pointing to a definite link between food and inflammation. The following are their findings:
First, the healing foods :
•Cherries- sweet and tart lowers C-reactive proteins. It may even provide pain relief.
•Salmon- suppresses inflammation while boosting more anti-inflammatory foods.
•Broccoli- or cruciferous vegetables eg Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, mustard greens.
•Shiitake and enoki mushrooms- can lower inflammatory markers.
•Extra virgin olive oil; ground flaxseed and canola oil.
•Avocado.
•Turmeric- the powerful curcumin found in turmeric. (check the label).
•Tomatoes- suppress inflammation and lower cancer and heart disease risks.
•Spinach- is full of antioxidants, boosts the immune system, and suppresses inflammation.
•Strawberries- contain antioxidants and destroy free radicals that promote inflammation.
Foods to avoid
•Sugar and artificial sweeteners.
•Preserved cured and red meats (deli meat, bacon, hotdogs).
•MSG- can cause headaches, weakness, and widespread pain.
•Processed food- preservatives and dyes cause inflammation while stripping away needed nutrients.
•Dairy- can irritate the stomach and joint tissues because they contain saturated fats, antibiotics, and growth hormones.
Basically, the “good” foods are those that are around the perimeter of the store. The aisles inside the perimeter likely contain the “bad” food, that we all love to eat.
