-season ending loss for softball, but my daughter pitched a gem in the 4th
-blackbelt: secured (that was intense)
-little league game won 9-8 with some nice hitting and fielding from my youngest
Schedule for the day for the 3 Bunn kids:
-playoff softball at 11
-Taekwondo blackbelt testing at 1
-final regular season little league game at 3
...all in the same 8 mile radius
I'm begging people to think this through beyond the simpleminded politics. Property taxes aren't perfect, but they are fundamentally better than the alternatives. https://t.co/cHADv0uMbp
I find the argument for a lower rate of VAT on hospitality strange.
Most campaigns for VAT zero/reduced-rating argue that their product is an essential, disproportionately consumer by people on low incomes, and that consumers will see the benefits.
This campaign however is calling for a VAT cut for something disproportionately consumed by the better off. But, they are also arguing it isn’t progressive because producers (bars/restaurants) will capture most of the cut.
I support a Kiwi-style flat VAT rate for everything, but some VAT reduced-rates are more justifiable (e.g. food to be cooked at home) than others. This isn’t one of them.

Every country’s mix of taxes is different, depending on factors such as its economic situation and policy goals. However, each type of tax impacts the economy differently, with some taxes being more harmful than others.

I wonder how many Americans think we should hand over 10% of our GDP to a global government so that we can then have policies like "less material consumption and changes in food habits" forced on us. Show me the polling numbers!
@billyez2@ahardtospell The US vs China dynamics could also play in here. Could US lawmakers design such a tax that would avoid giving foreign models an advantage over US ones? Esp. when both US and China compete for AI adoption in foreign countries.
@billyez2@ahardtospell I totally agree. I don't know how you tax compute without changing the competitive dynamics. Some companies may be able to absorb the tax and become winners over companies that would falter under a compute tax (or whatever that tax looks like).
