Sam and I are shocked and saddened by what the board did today.

Let us first say thank you to all the incredible people who we have worked with at OpenAI, our customers, our investors, and all of those who have been reaching out.

We too are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. Here is what we know:

- Last night, Sam got a text from Ilya asking to talk at noon Friday. Sam joined a Google Meet and the whole board, except Greg, was there. Ilya told Sam he was being fired and that the news was going out very soon.

- At 12:19pm, Greg got a text from Ilya asking for a quick call. At 12:23pm, Ilya sent a Google Meet link. Greg was told that he was being removed from the board (but was vital to the company and would retain his role) and that Sam had been fired. Around the same time, OpenAI published a blog post.

- As far as we know, the management team was made aware of this shortly after, other than Mira who found out the night prior.

The outpouring of support has been really nice; thank you, but please don’t spend any time being concerned. We will be fine. Greater things coming soon.

Apple is expected to launch new products next month! Here is what to expect:

iPhone 15 series

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will feature slight design changes including the addition of Dynamic Island (replacing the notch), USB-C port, A16 chip, 48MP wide camera, and more.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature more substantial changes including a new titanium body, thinner bezels, Action Button (replacing Mute Switch), USB-C port, A17 chip, and a periscope lens for increased optical zoom (only on Pro Max model).

Apple Watch

A new Apple Watch Series 9 is expected with minimal changes including a new chip, a new pink color option, and new bands.

Apple could also launch a new Apple Watch Ultra (2nd gen) with a new chip and a black color option.

AirPods

As part of transitioning away from Lightning, Apple could launch a new AirPods Pro model with USB-C next month. It's unclear if other AirPods models will also be updated.

Humans can’t compete with this:

Earlier this week, I invited an artificial agent to my class, and now I'm hooked.

The agent was @firefliesai, an AI meeting assistant. I added it to my meeting invite just like any other participant and forgot about it.

I finished my class 2 hours later. I went to the agent's site, and I found this:

The full transcript of the session.
A summary of everything we discussed.
An outline with time markers.
A list of auto-generated action items.
A list of everyone who spoke during the class.

All of this happened automatically. I didn't have to do anything other than add an email address to my call. It felt effortless, and that's one of the things that impressed me the most.

But there's more:

The agent can generate soundbites, analyze the sentiment of every participant and point out when they were frustrated or unhappy. It also automatically categorizes different call portions to extract questions, dates, tasks, and metrics.

On top of it all, I can ask any questions about the call, and the tool uses a Large Language Model to answer them.

I tried the tool with a free account. You have to upgrade to a paid account to access some of the functionality, get unlimited storage, and a bunch of integrations. The free version, however, is enough to get you hooked.

This is the type of product that feels helpful and magical. You focus on your business, and the AI assistant does the grunt work behind the scenes.

We’re rolling out a bunch of small updates to improve the ChatGPT experience. Shipping over the next week:

1. Prompt examples: A blank page can be intimidating. At the beginning of a new chat, you’ll now see examples to help you get started.
2. Suggested replies: Go deeper with a click. ChatGPT now suggests relevant ways to continue your conversation.
3. GPT-4 by default, finally: When starting a new chat as a Plus user, ChatGPT will remember your previously selected model — no more defaulting back to GPT-3.5.
4. Upload multiple files: You can now ask ChatGPT to analyze data and generate insights across multiple files. This is available with the Code Interpreter beta for all Plus users.
5. Stay logged in: You’ll no longer be logged out every 2 weeks! When you do need to log in, you’ll be greeted with a much more welcoming page.
6. Keyboard shortcuts: Work faster with shortcuts, like ⌘ (Ctrl) + Shift + ; to copy last code block. Try ⌘ (Ctrl) + / to see the complete list.
