The UK government has been accused of 'suppressing' a report by intelligence services, warning that climate change has become a critical national security issue.
@elonmusk Total energy from incoming solar radiation = 340w/m2
Excess solar energy (heat) trapped due to greenhouse gas pollution (CO2, CH4 etc) is around 2w/m2, less than 1% of total.
So this imbalance is only a tiny fraction of the total incoming solar energy.
So possible, in theory.
The strongest hurricane on record to make landfall over Jamaica was Hurricane Gilbert in 1988, a Category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of 130 mph.
As of Monday morning, Melissa was classified as a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 160 mph. https://t.co/RCM4Nem1D8
It's not just the high sea surface temperatures, but also the great depth of the ocean heat buildup in the #Caribbean and #Atlantic, that has enabled a storm like #Melissa to become such a monstrous Cat 5 #hurricane.
This is unbelievably bad.
The warmth of the waters in the Caribbean Sea extends so deep that Melissa could remain stationary for days and still not upwell cooler water — 30°C over a layer extending down to 50 meters or more. This thing will basically have endless ocean fuel.
UPDATE: Hurricane Melissa has unfortunately detonated into a CATEGORY 4 MONSTER ~120 mi SE of Jamaica, with sustained winds of 140 MPH and a new peak pressure of 944 MBAR.
Her winds have now doubled in strength in just 24 hours.
And unbelievably, she is not done intensifying.
@Jason72573239@PGDynes As long as MCB units only active on ships in the right region, in the right conditions in summer, and with the seawater drops sprayed at right size. Spray droplets mustn't be too large (or too small) or could cause cloud dimming, not brightening, so care needed to increase albedo
@Jason72573239@PGDynes MCB could be the safest & most effective sunlight reflection method to help climate repair - if R&D is allowed to progress. It just uses seawater from the ocean and as in lower atmosphere from boats, can be per region / per season, scaled or switched off instantly when required.
On Thursday, 14th (after 7.30pm), hoping to spot some of the #Geminid meteor shower. Should be clear enough skies around London / Essex, UK.
The @metoffice weather forecast looks promising anyway 🤞 https://t.co/1ZQlNil0cQ #meteors#Geminids#shootingstars
@PaulHBeckwith Here's Hansen's monthly update about the loss of aerosol cooling effect being a key factor. There is strong evidence for this in the N Atlantic and other busy shipping areas where recent legislation has banned the sulfurous fuel causing these aerosols. https://t.co/UX8BBFm2iW
🔥🌍📈BREAKING @NASA 📈🌍🔥
The Earth's Energy Imbalance from NASA satellite data reached 1.97 W/m² (12-month mean)!!
I called this the most important graph in the world.
This helps to explain all the records currently being broken around the word!

“Expect chaos” - we really are in uncharted warm waters - Dr Jennifer Francis “We have not had a strong El Niño, in conjunction with ocean heatwave in the North Pacific, in conjunction with an Atlantic ocean where the temperatures are almost off the charts.”
@HansWSchulze@dbkell Nice idea in principle, but not really viable like a 'pick your own strawberries' events...as it would involve members of the public clambering up #ladders to pick the apples...so probably seen as too much #healthandsafety risk for the orchard owners / farmers!
@FlashKnight26@Habbang@BBCNews UK #agriculture still used many low paid workers from overseas since Brexit but rather than from EU, more workers from much further afield e.g. 4 times more seasonal workers came from Nepal in 2022 & much #exploitation occurred. See this @FT article:

@Brahmslover1278 @elonmusk@KanekoaTheGreat A lot of people are forgetting...or ignore the fact... that there was a different Ukrainian President from 2014 - 2019. He was Petro Poroshenko. Then Zelensky beat him in the 2019 election. https://t.co/oSGMuDrOG5
@Habbang@BBCNews Brexit was responsible for badly harming the UK apple industry long before the recent massive rise in fertiliser & energy prices. Remember - in 2019, 16 million apples were left to rot due to the loss of EU workers... https://t.co/E9PzFXEEcW
