Is it ever truly an unbiased hearing, when a public figure has to stand trial? Why is it when a public figure, such as former president Trump, goes to trial, they have a right to a speedy trial, but every other individual gets caught in the backlog of the CJS?
The existsing stigma surrounding incarceration not only sticks to the incarcerated for their lifetime, but inherently prevents successful reintegration. The existing stigma additionally may bound individuals to recidivism. #CrimEdCU
The stigma of arrest is "sticky" in 2 ways:
1) a friend's arrest sticks to you, raising your odds of arrest independent of your own delinquency
2) and it stays stuck to you even after you cut ties with that arrested friend

Very powerful message behind this tweet, and I agree. However, I find it troubling that TikTok has become a priority to be compared next to human rights. Yes, regulate gun laws and ban assault rifles, but this is not something to be compared to the use of social media #CrimEdCU
An incredibly hard watch, but depicts in live time the horrific crime that was occurring. This video will leave an impact on many and should be used as a wake up call to the dangers of American gun laws #CrimEdCU
MNPD Officers Rex Engelbert, a 4-year veteran, and Michael Collazo, a 9-year veteran, were part of a team of first responders to the Covenant campus Mon morning. They fired on the active shooter, who was killed. This is their body camera footage. https://t.co/17qsZM6bNp
I love the idea of "banned book nooks" or circulating banned books, however, it is saddening that this has become an option. How will this book ban in Florida begin to impact surrounding states, and even the entire country? #CrimEdCU
A record number of book bans are expected this year.
Here’s how some activists are finding creative ways to make banned books available to young readers anyway. https://t.co/xTbmaGC5Vg
I truly belive we can combat the war on poverty and make a serious impact. However, the polarization within Americans will be the biggest challenge in this endeavor. #CrimEdCU
Princeton sociologist Matthew Desmond says if the top 1% of Americans paid the taxes they owed, it would raise $175 billion each year.
"That is just about enough to pull everyone out of poverty," the author says. https://t.co/YI9b4yuuVE
A very important topic that should be discussed more in CJS. Based on this study, it would be interesting to see an additional study completed that compares when the identity of the victim/s and offender/s remain hidden from jurors vs when they are revealed during trial #CrimEdCU
Very interesting meta-analysis and well researched. However, after reading, I wonder what results would be yielded if a similar study were to only evaluate single-parent households and then compared results of single fathers vs single mothers. #CrimEdCU
Such a horrific act. How is it that cases such as this one are not discussed more frequently on larger social media platforms? Modern technology, while useful, has opened new doors for horrific crimes, such as this one. #CrimeEdCU
‘Nearly unimaginable’: NYC day care owner allegedly filmed sexual abuse of child in his care, possessed thousands of child porn images and videos

It would be interesting to see a study like this conducted in the US. Once the label 'sex offender' is applied, there is no reintegration into society, even if one is educated. #CrimeEdCU
@NPR Very interesting response from the univeristy. I wonder if the public pressures from social media involvment, had any influence in this decision process?
What can be built in place of the house, that actively helps the victims families & the community?
A well articulated article that brings light to important topics within the age of social media. The phrase, trial by Internet, encapsulates the idea of seeking informal justice, perfectly. Given the dangers of informal reporting, how will this affect future reporting in the CJS?
