A25: From this slow chat, I am reminded of the importance of giving Ss some control and making them feel ownership of what they learn. Having Ss choose a topic in the real world and informing other Ss has so many benefits...I love it! #TATedison
A24: Make sure that in our classes we give students a voice and give them opportunities to learn what they are interested in. When they experience this and realize how great it is, they will be more motivated in the future to speak up and follow their interests. #TATedison
A23: Ss can research how math, maybe statistics, is used in research of a cause of their choice and share their results with other Ss. This can help Ss see that even math can help make a difference in the world...it's more than just that subject everyone hates! #TATedison
A22: I have not provided my math students with the opportunity to "make changes to our world". I would love some ideas that relate to my math curriculum. All of these stories we've read make me feel like such a boring teacher! #TATedison
A21: I have not brought world news into my class...it's hard for math (pre-calc). Maybe certain financial news could be related to some classes, but it is not easy unfortunately. #TATedison
A20: For math I don't really use rubrics much, so I have not had my Ss create their own. I can see how it could be beneficial for Ss to make their own. Helps them take ownership and gives them motivation to work harder now that they see what they deem important. #TATedison
A19: Ss can work in groups on a math topic of their choice and show how it relates to real life. Students would be collaborating and could take ownership of their work since they decide what they want to research and how they present their findings. #TATedison
A18: I like to give students options for practicing certain skills...desmos, kahoot, pair work...etc. When students feel they have a say in how they practice, they are more willing to participate to their fullest! #TATedison
A17: When students feel they are learning what they want to do and are creating assignments they think are fair, they are more willing to put in the effort to master the topic. #TATedison
A16: I agree! When students are interested in what they are learning and feel they have some control, they are more willing to be more creative and put more time into pushing their knowledge instead of settling for just barely answering the basic questions. #TATedison
A15: Students can create 3-D drawings using GeoGebra. The example below shows a pyramid. With Calculus, you can use integration to find volumes of shapes. #tatedison
