The only real emotional negative for me in EVIL DEAD BURN - and it isn't really a negative in terms of horror - is Thya's murder in the car after her boyfriend's father is possessed. It's extremely violent, but it feels genuinely hateful. Like he's killing her out of pure spite. I don't want to say misogynistic, because it has nothing to do with gendered violence, but the way it's choreographed and acted feels uncomfortably personal. It made me feel genuinely uneasy both in the cinema and rewatching it at home. Usually, the kills in this franchise are awesome horror movie deaths, but something about the way this one was shot and acted just felt off. Does anybody else get what I'm saying?
