Tomorrow is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Key for innovation, new insights and accelerated paths to sustainability, and [a more gender balanced world is] crucial for a harmonious future for humanity on Earth https://t.co/9FmCwLytvK
Can't believe the news of Will Steffen's passing. One of the very best at communicating the current climate predicament faced by humanity. If you have never watched one of his talks I'd recommend this one. https://t.co/sUdrDwBHUv
This is terribly sad news. A leading figure in Earth system science. Much of my life has been in Will's footsteps, from the ANU Mountaineering Club (I will forever associate Mt Tennent with Will!) to working on the Planetary Boundaries in Stockholm.
Oh, no! What chocking news! Will Steffen was one of my scientific heroes. His work on Earth System change and Biosphere resilience inspired me to work on these issues. He has inspired many of my colleagues. Let’s honor him by continuing to move this important field forward ❤️
"Will Steffen’s commitment to action on climate change was unwavering...demonstrating the courage of a warrior, the intellect of a scientist and at the same time delivered with compassion and grace."

"Will was not just a brilliant scientist but also a true diplomat of the scientific community, bridging gaps and fostering new partnerships among scholars from diverse disciplines."

Will Steffen received death threats and was dismissed from his advisory post from the Australian government, but he never stopped telling the truth about the threat of climate change.

Will Steffen was a powerful ally in the fight to save a livable Earth, a visionary scientist and a rare truth teller, courageous and full of compassion. We've lost a giant and he will be greatly missed.

Will Steffen was a gifted scientist, and a powerful communicator. He was admired throughout the Canberra community and I was privileged to speak his words to the Senate in his honour.
Professor Will Steffen was a brilliant scientist, gifted communicator, and brave climate warrior.
Will is, and always will be, part of the very fabric of the Climate Council. His passing leaves us with a deep sense of loss.
Vale Professor Will Steffen.
Terrible news that scientist Professor Will Steffen has died. This amazing man spent his career trying to wake us up to the planetary crisis we are facing. Please watch, share and join the fight to force political action. His words speak for themselves https://t.co/dfKaS2ilBy
I have no words to express my deep sadness for the loss of Will Steffen who passed away last night. He had been one of the most influential individuals in global change science programs, director of GCTE, IGBP, and driver of ESSP that led to the creation of the @gcarbonproject
I’m shocked and devastated to hear that the brilliant climate scientist Will Steffen has died. I am deeply grateful to him for so many things - so here is a thread of 5 thank yous (and please feel welcome to add more).
Vale Professor Will Steffen. He was a pioneer in climate change research, and a leader in academia and civil society. Will made a big difference in how climate change is understood. He was the inaugural director of the ANU Climate Change Institute.
