The Government has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to fully implementing the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with @kmpdu, recognizing that the well-being of healthcare workers is central to the delivery of quality health services.

This is a betrayal of every Kenyan who depends on public healthcare. The government has made its priorities clear—billions more for MPs while slashing the health budget, the most reduced sector in the 2025/26 Budget Policy Statement.

Hospitals are running out of essential supplies, doctors and nurses are overworked and underpaid, and Kenyans are suffering in a crumbling healthcare system. Yet, instead of fixing this crisis, our leaders choose to enrich themselves.

At the same time, Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) are being mutilated and blatantly disrespected. Agreements meant to guarantee fair pay, better working conditions, and dignity for healthcare workers are tossed aside, while politicians ensure their benefits are untouched.

How can we provide quality care when salaries are delayed, facilities are understaffed, CBAs are ignored, and medics are forced to work in deplorable conditions? Healthcare is not a privilege—it is a fundamental right!

We demand full funding for our healthcare system and respect for the CBAs that protect our workforce.

A decade history of Kenyan doctors’ salaries:

In December 2011 after listening to the plight of Kenyan doctors, the late President Mwai Kibaki increased doctors’ salaries by 50%, by introducing emergency call allowance Kshs 30,000 and extraneous allowance Kshs. 35,000 on the payslip.

In March 2017 President Uhuru Kenyatta enhanced doctors salaries by introducing a Kshs. 20,000 health risk allowance and enhancing the call allowance by kshs 42,000 at the mid senior level and Kshs. 50,000 at the Senior levels.

In April 2024, President @WilliamsRuto has abolished all the increments by his two predecessors and proposed a 70% reduction in the junior most doctors’ salary and his government is reneging on all previous legally binding agreements between the GOK & the doctors through their union @kmpdu .

While at it he has introduced a 2.75% Social health Insurance levy, 1.5% Housing levy, deductions on the gross pay of workers. Additionally, the cost of living has increased over the last 13 years.

In labour economics, this is not only retrogressive but shows the regime’s contempt against workers.

In conclusion, it is now clear that the UHC fronted by this regime translates to salary reduction for the health workforce and increased insurance contributions by the citizens.

As Doctors, we refuse to be scapegoats for wage bill reduction. Our salaries, vital like any Kenyan's, are based on fair agreements.

Despite government pressure, doctors' salaries, anchored on CBA, are non-negotiable. We won't compromise on fair compensation for our hard work. It's unjust to target us for wage bill control while state officers enjoy hefty paychecks.

We stand united against exploitation.
