@RyanSAdams He's also completely on point in implying the huge unknown risks of NOT developing AI as quickly as possible. The precautionary principle (what doomers are advocating) is a lot of what has held back the rest of the world, making the US the frontier in innovation.

@RyanSAdams Yes. I like this. And lots of good reasons why AI vs AGI have distinctly separate, almost opposite, risks. AI is a tool like crypto or rubber bands or guns or soap. AGI is an artificial person, is not the culmination of better AI, and will be entitled to human rights.

@RyanSAdams Agreed. The rest of the world won't wait for the doomer consortium to give their blessing in AI either. So that could either flourish outside the US or get throttled for decades like nuclear, a nice solution to global warming we're too scared to use.

@RyanSAdams Your AI takes tend to rely on an appeal to authority. Worse, it is a mistake to assume someone who invents a chatbot orders of magnitude better has any expertise in the very unrelated matter of actual consciousness (something with free will)
