A few neighbors on our street mow their lawn on Wednesdays with electric mowers. A few mow with gas on Thursdays.
The difference in noise is crazy.
There are a lot of reasons to electrify everything. Reduced noise pollution is a great one.
This graph goes a long way towards explaining why British houses look so cheap and are such low quality, even though they're expensive to buy.
They are, in fact, built cheaply.
.@Ed_Miliband@theCCCuk@energygovuk
All new build properties should have heat pump or heat pump powered heat networks mandated now.
It’s madness this still isn’t the case considering similar legislation was due to come in to force way back in 2016! A lost decade.
In a 150sft room at London’s Citigen, E.ON’s City Energy control room manages the energy flow for over 70 sites in the UK.
As well as keeping buildings hot & cold, we're able to predict energy spikes, whether it’s your morning coffee rush or evening TV📺

It was great to visit @eonenergyuk’s Citigen operation and to meet the team.
It was exciting to see some of the ways in which they are innovating to deliver a better deal for their customers. I really enjoyed the tour of the heat network station, which provides district heating and cooling to the City of London.
We welcomed @Miatsf, Minister for Energy Consumers, to our Citigen site in the heart of London today.
The Minister met with members of the team and learned how Citigen supplies this highly populated part of London with low-carbon and cost-efficient energy solutions.
Why moving to electrified transport is an advantage to seize:
🔋80% of lithium, 66% of nickel and 50% of copper reserves are in democracies.
🛢️80% of oil reserves are in OPEC countries
The primary energy fallacy is the idea that all primary energy from fossil fuels must be replaced with an equivalent amount of clean energy.
BUT: This is not necessary because conversion losses do not need to be replaced. More than 2/3 of all primary energy is lost as waste heat.
I first heard @MLiebreich use this term which captures this phenomenon nicely I think.
On today’s price cap rise, I note for @E3G “the gov has an opportunity at the Autumn Budget to start to fix our broken energy system.”
We need targeted bill support, action to kick-start the warm homes plan, & investments to get gas out the power system.

The same street in Manchester, one hundred years apart.
The private motor vehicle is an invasive species, which gradually crowds out and suffocates the rich social life of our cities.
When cars don’t dominate the streets, life flourishes.
We’ve upgraded almost 300 homes in Lincolnshire and to celebrate we organised a Summer Fun Fest for all the residents with outdoor games, ice cream and fish and chips 🐟 🍟

The power of poo (yes really!)💩
We’re teaming up with @STWater and @MIRAengineering to launch the UK’s first in-sewer heat recovery system... heating homes and businesses while cutting bills & emissions.

NEW REPORT on GB Energy, and the role of the state by @nesta_uk and @Baringa. This work underpins some of what is being announced today. 🧵 https://t.co/5aEDpqr746

Great to hear @Ed_Miliband highlighting the intention to ensure landlords raise the standards of their accommodation to make sure that homes are warm, safe and healthy.
Historic England will publish guidance tomorrow that encourages local councils to allow heat pumps, solar & insulation in listed buildings & in conservation areas. Fantastic news! We desperately need consistency & a can-do culture. Great work @leylaboulton

We welcome @citizensadvice highlighting the urgent need to improve the private rented sector. We need to see early progress to improve energy efficiency in rented homes if statutory fuel poverty and carbon targets are to be met.
A key factor for how many heat pumps get installed:
It is the ratio between electricity and gas prices (so-called spark gap).
@helloheatpumps produced this helpful graphic showing that countries with the highest spark gap also see fewest heat pump installs.
