...Happy Birthday (and the boy wept for broken yesterdays)
<Read the story below for context>
Else, well.. you're smart enough to figure it out. Or you already know what's up.
This was my prom i wasn’t forced i 100% agreed to everything. My family is not homophobic bro it’s just a caption, my date wasn’t left out ! the video was about me and she’s not the biggest fan of all the cameras and social media. SHE IS MY FRIEND WE NOT DATING !!
I recently read a fascinating theory that cheese was not invented but *discovered* in the stomachs of baby ruminants... and then people reverse engineered it from there 🔥
it’s crazy how we found a way to connect every single human on the globe with billions of miles of wires and vibrating invisible energy waves and algorithms of such precision that you can tell the exact millisecond when someone presses a button and we use this to simulate shooting each other
In the early morning, @nathancgy4, @Xinyu2ML, @Yulun_Du and I were preparing some showcases for the blog while watching the World Cup. The moment Argentina beat England, I felt something. I looked up, and saw the most unforgettable Beijing sunrise. So I took the photo.
I knew this was no ordinary day, and now it comes and says, "Hello, world!"
Happy hatch day, K3!
Please enjoy it, I have felt 「眩晕瘫坐」 for weeks.
It is a monster model, yet clean in architecture; elegant in optimization, beautiful in MoE desigins.
It has crossed a certain singularity, it is a year of work, in one release.
🚀🚀🚀 This is a Sputnik moment for OSS.
man ignore the benchmarks and the race i just want there to always remain a frontier level intelligence model that is open and safe, available to everyone regardless of region
it is truly incredible to have built such an open (and strong) model with a group of genuine people
Dear Friends, I'm very sorry to say that it appears that Kimi K3 is a fantastic model, beating or equal to Sol and Fable in many areas, just behind it on others, and blowing past Opus 4.8.
Unfortunately, that now means we get to live through yet another round of grandstanding, posturing, and talking-headery these next few weeks.
Maybe a few pompous and self important essays will drop?
Or how about some new poll by a doom group?
Maybe some new sci-fi masquerading as serious public debate about how AI plays out in the next 5 years?
Or how about a raging 80 year old Senator pumping his gnarled fist in the air.
Get ready to talk about every crazy issue these next few weeks such as (but not limited to):
- Won't someone please protect the incumbents?
- China
- China ahead or behind
- China steals
- Chip controls
- Data center water, while someone golfs and chows a burger
- What do we need? Regulatory capture! When do we want it? Now! Now! Now!
- Distillation "attacks."
- China hawkery
- FINRA/Food pyramid for models
- "Alignment"
- Manchurian candidate models
- Recursive self improvement
- Open source bans/limits
- Grey goo
- Fucking Yud and whoever the hell they other guy on his dime store book is
- And won't someone please, please think of the children?
And more!
Boys were reportedly bad today so the wife took TV away. I later told her I’d let them watch TV again if they cleaned the basement and the living room. The boys took agreed.
About 10 minutes in, they start fighting. 6y/o is yelling, 4y/o is whining. 6y/o runs up to tell on him.
Son: Dad! My brother keeps taking the big dinosaur I put away and wants to put it somewhere else!
Me: Where did you want to put it?
Son: [Reasonable location].
Me: And where did your brother want to put it?
Son: [Equally reasonable location].
Me: Okay… listen bud, what is your main goal, to get to watch TV again, or to put the dinosaur exactly where you want it?
Son: Um… my main goal is to be happy.
Me:….
Son:….
Me: Okay fair enough. So what will make you MORE happy? TV? Or putting the big dinosaur where you want?
Son:….TV.
Me: Okay, with that in mind, I think it would be more worth your time ignoring the dinosaur and working on something else. That will get you TV faster than fighting with your brother and then yelling on him.
Son: Okay, Dad….
Me: I know that’s unfair, but you’re 6, and your brother’s 4. That makes you smart enough to have this conversation, and he isn’t smart enough yet.
Son: Oh yeah, true. (Walks downstairs)
Hey, sometimes I can be good at this.
Watch YouTubers react to this scene and you'll inevitably find someone who whines, "Why didn't they see the dinosaur as they were driving up? Why did nobody hear it walking around until now?", when the point is to reveal the Brachiosaur to us as it's revealed to the characters. The awe and wonder registering in their faces so that we register the majesty of the moment. It's about selling the EMOTION, not the logic. That's just how movies work.

My therapist told me that this is normal and that you can't rely on your youthful energy to drive your motivation forever. You have to find another source of power from within.
People act like autism showed up out of nowhere.
It didn't.
I'm autistic. I just didn't have a name for it until I was 28, I'm 30 now.
As a kid, I wasn't autistic.
I was the weird one. The difficult one. The kid who needed to try harder. The one teachers misunderstood and classmates laughed at.
We didn't suddenly appear.
You just finally learned how to see us.
my personal height of animated martial arts is still, to this day, fog hill of five elements. i understand why a lot of animators don't like it, it does have clarity problems, but despite those technical issues it manages to be hectic and weighty and flashy and sharp.
