Worked with young ball players who were so much better than their peers as a youth but didn’t start in HS. Worked with some you would never imagine would end up playing in college, but they did. Worked with professionals who were the best in their state but never played in the big leagues. Worked with late round draft pics who have had solid MLB careers. But maybe the most impactful experience I’ve had as a coach is working with a young man from his preteen years into HS, watch him grow into an amazing two sport athlete and even better young man but tragically pass away before even turning eighteen.

Personally, the game has provided so much perspective on life and the process of growth both athletically and as people. I feel that while working to become the best we can be on the field or court, trusting the process (and I mean REALLY trusting it, not just saying it) is where it’s at. Taking each day for what it is, good or bad. Finding ways to use the game to help us prepare for and be better at life off the field or court is the game changer.

We never know what lies ahead. Be grateful for everyday.
