Took on my plot early in 2018. Love to grow lots of different veg, mostly outside, a little bit in the greenhouse. Here to share ideas and find inspiration.
Haven't had chance to do a lot of gardening for a while. Things are changing, more updates as plans become more solid... There should be much more growing in the future.
Last night was the first chance to get down in two weeks due to the constant rain. Grass cut and red cabbage in the ground now. Lots of weeding to do, hopefully call in tonight after work to do a bit. #allotment#GrowYourOwn
Despite having a week off work I've not made it to the plot due to heavy rain every time I've got chance, including right now, I have managed to sort out lots of tomato and pepper plants in the greenhouse though. #allotment#GrowYourOwnFood
We've been to a local garden centre this afternoon, while her indoors was looking at flowers I got myself a couple of trays of cabbage plants. #GrowYourOwnFood
Potatoes in bags topped up with sieved soil. I normally top them up a little a at a time but this year I've let them grow up to the tops of the bags before filling them up. #GrowYourOwnFood
@notreallyafarm Ideally I'd have put these in bigger pots for a few weeks before putting them out but it's just another job I've not really got time to do so they'll have to fend for themselves. If the weather stays like this for a bit I'm sure they'll get going soon enough.
3 rows of dwarf bolloti beans and another wigwam of a different variety of climbing french beans planted last night. I'm going big on beans this year. #allotment#GrowYourOwnFood#BigOnBeans
@HemelAllotment Slowly. I find if I take my time starting at one end it's not too bad. I do make sure I roll it up when I put it away though, that probably helps.
Peas support built and peas planted last night, I couldn't take pictures or water last night because my phone died and it went dark so I've called in on my way to work. Although it's ever so slightly raining right now it's forecast to be warm and dry again later on. #growyourown
@1_Into_The_Wild Yeah, they're all in now, cardboard buried with the bottoms open so that the Roots can grow straight into the ground and the tubes soon rot away.
Toilet roll peas and beans looking good. They came inside the house yesterday as the forecast was close to freezing and the greenhouse doesn't stay much warmer than outside at night at the moment. Risking them back in the greenhouse tonight and plan to plant out later this week.
Climbing french beans are going out today. But I've run out of long canes, anyone know a source of cheap, long (7' or longer) bamboo, preferable who can deliver in the UK? #gardening#allotment
Climbing french beans are in, 2 per cane, toilet roll tubes buried carefully just covering the tops of the cardboard. I've found in the past that leaving any on show results in the pigeons grabbing them and pulling them out of the ground. I'm not sure why they do this. #allotment
Possible frost again tonight, hopefully the last one for the year. I think I'll bring some plants inside before I go to bed. Maybe plant some beans and peas out tomorrow. #GrowYourOwnFood#gardening
