While I couldnโt be there, the Hong group, along with Ruya Liu lab, was well represented at the #2025BCVS meeting in Baltimore! Daniela Fuller presented her tour de force PhD work on small molecules that selectively promote human cardiomycyte proliferation without disrupting cardiac function or causing noncardiomyocyte or cancer cell proliferation. Totally cool. But how do they work? If @NIH or someone funded me to tackle that question, I might also be able to make better drugs to treat heart diseases! My only comment is where is @MSUMD & @HFH_MSU_HS logos on the poster?? ๐ #SpartansWill

Hong lab is on a roll in 2025! Our latest paper showing GPR68 inhibition induces #ferroptosis & #radiosensitivity in diverse cancer cell types like lung & pancreatic cancer cells. Therapeutic synergy with radiation therapy. #SpartansWill https://t.co/8pEleEkzrd

I love teaching but the my real passion is the mentorship of a grad student. 2nd masters student in 4 years officially defended their thesis successfully. And though the body of work was GREAT this is what will likely live on. TEM from GBM cells.
Out now! The #microtubule network of a heart muscle cell is beautifully organized, and bears compressive load during contraction, buckling between sarcomeres. What governs this architecture and these mechanical interactions?? https://t.co/ErISy1UI5E

APOL1 risk alleles increase the risk of renal disease. We show that carriers are at risk for plaque rupture, suggesting the need for more work on APOL1 and CAD.

Excited to share our paper published in CRM. Using single cell seq, we show that CMV-specific CD4 T cells are clonally expanded in adipose tissue of HIV-positive patients with diabetes & may contribute to altered adipocyte function.@DrMonaMash @WyattMcDonnell @tncfar @DMAronoff
