@benthompson@united Was on two transcons this week that had Panasonic and one flight internet didn’t work and the other it was pretty terrible. I heard that United can’t change from Panasonic due to contracts but if that’s true United should go after Panasonic for not honoring their SLAs.
@zackbshapiro Good article. One missing element is the tacit knowledge and connectivity that some big law firms get from hiring a former judge, commissioner, or regulator - knowing how a court might think about or approach a novel issue or the current proclivities at the FTC.
Not surprised by the outcome. The path to success is doing more with the same, rather than doing the same with less. If this happens at economy wide scale, that will have a compounding effect driving more activity across the board.
A super interesting new study from Harvard Business Review.
A 8-month field study at a US tech company with about 200 employees found that AI use did not shrink work, it intensified it, and made employees busier.
Task expansion happened because AI filled in gaps in knowledge, so people started doing work that used to belong to other roles or would have been outsourced or deferred.
That shift created extra coordination and review work for specialists, including fixing AI-assisted drafts and coaching colleagues whose work was only partly correct or complete.
Boundaries blurred because starting became as easy as writing a prompt, so work slipped into lunch, meetings, and the minutes right before stepping away.
Multitasking rose because people ran multiple AI threads at once and kept checking outputs, which increased attention switching and mental load.
Over time, this faster rhythm raised expectations for speed through what became visible and normal, even without explicit pressure from managers.
Yesterday, I spoke to San Franciscans about a potential federal deployment in our city. I said then what I have said since taking office, that keeping San Franciscans safe is my top priority.
Late last night, I received a phone call from the President of the United States. I told him the same thing I told our residents: San Francisco is on the rise. Visitors are coming back, buildings are getting leased and purchased, and workers are coming back to the office.
We have work to do, and we would welcome continued partnerships with the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Attorney to get drugs and drug dealers off our streets, but having the military and militarized immigration enforcement in our city will hinder our recovery. We appreciate that the president understands that we are the global hub for technology, and when San Francisco is strong, our country is strong.
In that conversation, the president told me clearly that he was calling off any plans for a federal deployment in San Francisco. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem reaffirmed that direction in our conversation this morning.
My team will continue to monitor the situation closely, and our city remains prepared for any scenario.
I am profoundly grateful to all the San Franciscans who came together over the last several days. Our city leaders have been united behind the goal of public safety. And our values have been on full display—this is the best of our city.
Autonomous doesn't need to be perfect; it just needs to be better than the avg driver. The media consistently gets this wrong by highlighting exceptions/accidents instead of the overall good. Eventually insurance will reflect these improvements, driving lower total cost of owning
@bowmanimal With this strategy you should never end a game that hasn't revealed all yellows...
In the first five rounds, you can get 25 / 26 letters (5x5) (and the 26th by process of elimination)
You will probably get lucky with some placements, as well (or can eliminate some placements)
If Dick Wolf ever wanted to make a 30min show, he should do Law & Order: San Francisco. The show would end after the investigation / arrest & it would be easy to cast because the criminals could have recurring roles #recallchesa@chesaboudin@DavidSacks@garrytan@michelletandler
Mayor @LondonBreed says the stabbing of an elderly Asian woman could have been avoided today - she says somebody dropped the ball and called out District Attorney Chesa Boudin AND the courts to look into WHY Daniel Cauich was able commit another crime in San Francisco.
