【#PolyUStudent 🇵🇰】Ahmed Irfan from #Pakistan stepped into the #PolyU campus with his father for the first time when he was 12 years old; seven years later, he followed his father's footsteps again and returned to Hong Kong to pursue his dream at PolyU. 🚀
In 2016, Ahmed’s father pursued his PhD at PolyU’s Department of Building and Real Estate, so Ahmed left Pakistan and came to Hong Kong with his family, and had studied at a local secondary school in Kwun Tong for 4 years. “As a 12-year-old teenager, everything at PolyU was so amazing to me! I was stunned by its beautiful infrastructures and international student community.” In the face of the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, his family decided to promptly return back to Pakistan after his father completed his PhD. Ahmed therefore could not complete the HKDSE, but after years, he is now back to Hong Kong to further his studies.
Since his childhood, Ahmed has dreamed of working for aerospace organisations. Given that Artificial Intelligence is one of the key global trends, he enrolled in PolyU’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Artificial Intelligence and Information Engineering, equipping himself with knowledge and skills in the fields of #AI and apply them to the field of #AerospaceEngineering in the future. “Hong Kong universities are ranked much higher than those in Pakistan. I chose to study at PolyU, not only because it is my father's alma mater, but also because of the numerous opportunities here for extracurricular activities, student-led clubs and organisations, exchange programmes and internships. PolyU also provides state-of-the-art facilities and resources to help students achieve a comprehensive education. After completing my first semester at PolyU, I can confidently recommend other Pakistanis to study at PolyU!”
Despite four years in Hong Kong, Ahmed only learnt to speak simple Cantonese. This time, he is determined to master this language and take Cantonese as an elective. “Having an opportunity to stay in Hong Kong for another four years, I should know the language this time. Being able to speak Cantonese fluently also helps me integrate into the community and get a better job in the future.” He also serves as a tour guide for international students, guiding them to explore Hong Kong thoroughly. 🇭🇰
