i want to marry into a functional family... the kind with cookouts, game nights, holiday dinners, and birthday parties. i want breakfast dates with my mother-in-law, shopping trips with siblings, a life that feels shared and warm. i don’t want it to be just "US" i want a family that’s truly family oriented
how to make friends in a new city:
> say yes to everything for the first 3 months
> ask locals what they like to do in the area - you can follow their recs for inspiration
> when you vibe with someone, ask to hang. don't wait for them to initiate!!
> try multiple communities & events to see what resonates - don't commit to just one
> try to meet one new person at every event you go to
> you can be direct & open - "I just moved here & want to meet more people, want to grab coffee?"
> be specific about meeting up *at a specific day/time* not just some distant point in the future
> don't take rejection personally - people may be busy or have different schedules
> know that some amount of homesickness is normal - that doesn't mean you made the wrong decision
> stay in touch with your community from home so you don't feel so alone
> once you meet a few people, host small gatherings (even 4 people for dinner) - fastest way to build a friend group
> you never know if *someone* will introduce you to *someone* who becomes your new best friend. the power of network effects is real!!
> iterate over time - keep meeting new people, trying new things & have fun with it!
> give it TIME - it takes time to find your rhythm
NOW you can make friends wherever you go!!
just be intentional about finding them!!
your people are waiting to meet you!!!
you got this!!!
life gets MUCH better when you realize it's up to YOU to make it fun, fulfilling, + enjoyable. you can't wait around to have more time, money, or a better situation. you must make the conscious effort (& set aside time) for joy. it won't just magically show up. YOU have to do it.
@MaitreyaBhakal@smoggynights Yeah thousands of Indian “tech giants” like Wipro, tcs and Infosys are lining up to hire that “talent” with massive salaries. I thought you are a rational one.
The Palestinian dilemma:
Resist – and Israel will slaughter 100,000s of you as "terrorists".
Don't resist – and Israeli settlers will beat you, while soldiers cut down your trees, bulldoze your home, and drive you off your land.
Oh, and the Israeli army might kill you anyway.
@hay_banda@JayantBhandari5 Escalation any further. Thus a ceasefire. This is the most probable scenario if you remove nationalist propaganda from both sides from the equation.
@hay_banda@JayantBhandari5 or what probably happened in reality was India woefully underestimated how advanced paf was due to Chinese help, losing many jets in the process and got spoked. Trump came in pressured both sides, and both sides were able to save face and didn’t benefit from the…
@hay_banda@JayantBhandari5 If we were winning the war, why would Modi stop the war considering we were winning and destroying “terrorist infrastructure” nonstop. Why did we listen to trump and stop the war instead of brushing him off?
@mowjit@VatsRishap Then Microsoft will pull out of India just like Pakistan. India contributes less than 2 percent of Microsoft’s global revenue. India doesn’t have the financial leverage to strong arm Microsoft.
@1ManOfSteeL@VatsRishap Microsoft revenue from India is less than 3-4%. Banning it won’t dent its profitability by much. Microsoft sees EU and US as more profitable markets, that’s why they wouldn’t give a shit about Indians’ tantrums.
Dave Chappelle slams DJ Khaled for staying silent on Gaza despite his Palestinian roots:
“As a Palestinian, how could you be so quiet right now? And why are you so fat? People are starving. He’s the only fat Palestinian on Earth right now.”
New research finds Gaza's true death toll is higher than official counts, in what experts call one of the deadliest conflicts of the 21st century, with over half of the dead being women and children
