Sportsbook Accounts Being Hacked and Drained

-A lot people (myself included) have jumped the gun and thought maybe this was an inside job

-And I am not 100 % ruling that out at this time because it is hard to know but I am leaning hard against that being the case after talking to some people

-After talking to several people who have been targeted here there are some common denominators

-Weak passwords

-Weak email security

-Weak email services (Yahoo , AOL)

-Email passwords same as Sportsbook passwords

-People thinking something cannot be a phishing attempt when it really is a phishing attempt because the attempts are setup flawlessly

-EOD any of these companies may never know if they had a data breach and if they did then you are an easy target if your email password matches up with your password for a sportsbook

-People are claiming they are not getting 2FA when hackers are getting at their balances and draining them.

But a good hacker that controls both with quickly delete the 2FA pin code needed to stop the person from noticing anything suspicious is going on

-If someone hacks you I highly doubt google is going to call you or email you or text you.

But a good hacker can make it seem that it is really them

-If they have access to login they can even have google send you an extra popup to verify it is you. On the surface this may look like you are being protected but this is how they gain full access

-If google (likely a hacker) calls you or emails you about something like this just ignore it. Try and login yourself first and then just change your password for extra security

-Do not hold the same passwords across multiple sites or you put yourself at extra risk

-Especially offshore, if you get targeted and your funds get swiped there is much less recourse IMO

-Use a password manager and generate unique, long (16+ character) passwords for every site. Never reuse the email password on any sportsbook (or vice versa). This single habit stops most credential-stuffing attacks.

-Prefer app-based or hardware 2FA over SMS or email codes. Authenticator apps (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) or better yet a hardware key (YubiKey) are much harder for attackers to defeat even if they control your email. SMS is vulnerable to SIM swaps.

-Enable login and withdrawal notifications on both the sportsbook and your email/bank. Many books let you turn on alerts for new devices, password changes, or withdrawal requests — turn them all on.

-Check Have I Been Pwned (https://t.co/foSKAvbWFp) periodically for your email addresses. If your credentials appear in breaches, change the password everywhere immediately and assume the sportsbook password is burned if it matched.

-Don’t keep large balances sitting in the account. Treat sportsbooks like a temporary wallet, not a savings account. Withdraw regularly.

-Use a dedicated/burner email for gambling accounts if possible. Keep it separate from your main personal/financial email.

-Never click links in unexpected emails or texts claiming to be from the sportsbook, Google, or your bank. Go directly to the official site or app yourself. Phishing pages are often near-perfect now.

-Avoid public Wi-Fi (or always use a reputable VPN) when logging into betting accounts.

-Lock down recovery options: Remove old phone numbers, secondary emails, or recovery questions that could be guessed or socially engineered.
