If @NYCMayor wants to see fewer people sleeping on the subways, he needs to START by giving folks an offer that meets their needs. More outreach means nothing if outreach teams are offering the same limited options that have led many to conclude the subway is their best bet.

Sweeps don’t work, period. All they do is get unsheltered folks temporarily out of sight for the comfort of people who are housed. They destroy belongings, destroy trust, and make it HARDER for folks to access housing and services.

Unfathomably cruel to do this as COVID surges in congregate shelters + with a Code Blue going into effect at 4pm today. This city makes it so difficult for homeless NYers to survive.

Just a few months after NYC prematurely ended the hotel program, we're already seeing the consequences. Cases in shelters are skyrocketing--they have literally doubled in 2 wks--& folks who were moved out of the safety of hotel rooms and back to congregate shelters are at risk.
