Starting in the early 2000s, Anthony Fauci used the money he controlled as NIAID director to fund the creation of a bioweapons research ecosystem embedded within universities across the US. As a result, bioweapons research (including dangerous gain-of-function research) has become normalized as basic research in virology.

The bioweapons research ecosystem built by Fauci includes Ralph Baric’s lab.

One way Fauci attempted to deflect attention from his role in creating the bioweapons research ecosystem that (predictably) resulted in a lab-generated pandemic was to minimize the small amount of funding the NIH gave to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
