The ORIGINAL Silicon Valley Accelerator. We look at the Big Bang, blow stuff up with X-rays, and are a contender for #CoolestNorCalLab. Not an official account.
When we started the task of reworking LCLS in preparation for superconducting accelerator structures and high rate x-ray science, we didn’t expect to have to restart during a pandemic. Now, a bit delayed, we’re back!
One of the side effects of the "shelter-in-place" order affecting the SF Bay Area is that WE ARE BACK after a long hiatus. Expect an exponential rise in #SCIENCE. Stay healthy, science friends.
May your lights shine brightly! (Ours is off for a year, y'know, upgrades, deployment, 'move fast and break things,' Silicon Valley yadda yadda) 😆 #UNLEASHtheNIOBIUM#GLORIOUSPHOTON#LCLS
MUSIC TO SCIENCE BY: Local DJ and mixmaster @rectifiedmix, who visited @SLAClab earlier this year, has just released a new complextro/electro mix with a particle-physics-flavored title. Give it a listen! https://t.co/96GrOI2FbC
The Big Red Button has been pushed, and #LCLS@SLAClab is now offline for a year for major upgrades. The only #GLORIOUSPHOTON s that we'll be producing in 2019 will emanate from our shiny femtosecond lasers.
Bittersweet! The end of the final shift of the #LCLS era @SLAClab, with a successful experiment led by Petra Fromme and the team from @ASU and @desynews. Now- onwards to the new era with LCLS-II. Thank you to all our wonderful staff and users for their amazing work!
The Physics Photowalk is ON @SLAClab! We're exploring the depths of the linac tunnel, the SLC detector 'pit', and the LCLS and SSRL experiment hutches. Repping both #teamelectron and #teamphoton for #PhysPics18!
.@SLAClab’s #TeamPhoton would like to shout out to #TeamElectron, without whom the SLAC linac wouldn’t exist:
“I live my life a mile at a time. Nothing else matters. For those 5 microseconds or less, I’m free.”
…and then we put you back in the ground!
