I’m extremely disappointed in us as Nigerian youths. Extremely.
I woke up this morning to get ready for work without electricity and without water. The last time we had power in my area was Saturday morning. This is Abule Ijesha, Lagos.
I work a 9–5. I earn a substantial amount every month, and yet I’m still dealing with something as basic as the lack of electricity and water.
And meanwhile, young people on Twitter are still allowing tribal sentiments and religious affiliations to divide us in 2026.
Do you people not understand how limited you are compared to young people in developed countries? Do you not understand that if anything happens right now, the politicians who are the most privileged among us have the means to leave this country while the rest of us remain here to deal with the consequences?
Do you genuinely think the elites care about the tribal and religious divisions they use to keep us fighting each other?
Your Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources in Lagos can be online flaunting a Patek Philippe while young people are struggling with basic infrastructure. And this is just a Commissioner.
They know exactly what they’re doing. They know that as long as we’re distracted by tribe, religion, sex, politics and whatever other silly division they can exploit, we won’t look up and ask the people actually responsible for our living conditions the difficult questions.
This is disgusting.
And honestly, we should be ashamed of ourselves.
Not because we are powerless, but because we have failed woefully to recognize where our collective interests lie.
We keep fighting each other while the people benefiting from this dysfunction continue to live above the consequences of it.
We need to do better.
Nigeria is dangerously not inclusive.
I know this doctor that stammers. When he goes for interview, he sees his colleague spend up to 30 mins, but his interviews doesn't go past 5 mins. He could tell they just want to dismiss him and move to the next person.
The doctor went for his PLAB exam in England. A day was set aside for doctors with speech difficulty. They were given extra time and asked if the time would be enough for them. He passed the PLAB. In Nigeria, when he takes exam, he has to finish within the alloted time given to people without difficulty.
How do we expect perfection from people who are already with personal difficulties? We need to imbibe grace as a people.
One time my husband and I were in a really heated quarrel that spanned days, we ended up seeking counsel from one church elderly couple.
First day of counseling, papa started the session by saying he’s noticed my husband and I and the problem is that my husband gives me too much freedom. My head first do tinrinrin.
He continued by using his marriage as an example, he said his first wife was a stubborn woman that wanted to go to university by all means, so he chased her away and married his second wife. Mama was sat right there 😭
I said “so mummy you don’t have BSc like this, only senior school leaving certificate?”
She nodded her head and smiled
Papa continued and told my husband that no matter what, he should never let me have more money in the marriage, even if it means stopping me from working.
As we got home that day, I went on my knees, begged, and apologized very well to my husband. My husband too went on his knees to beg me and made me promise that I’ll never stop working because he wants to retire early and stay home to be eating my money. 😂
If you like, be motivated from now till tomorrow, consume educational and inspiring content everyday.
If money no dey, nothing wey you go execute.
Don’t let anybody lie to you.
You're a man who loves a clean environment married to a woman with 4 kids who has no help and you keep complaining that she leaves everywhere untidy
So you served her divorce letter.
She didn't say anything, she just went inside and picked a few of her clothes and left the house leaving 4 children of age 2,4,7 and 8 with you.
You told her never to step her legs into your house again and she said okay.
On Monday you woke up as early as 5am to dress up the kids and you also have work by 8am .
You were cooking ,bathing them and dressing them up.
Before you know it ,the food has gotten burnt .
When you checked the time it was already 8am, you are late, the children are late too.
As you were rushing the children to hurry up then the little two years old girl said "daddy poo poo ", Before you knew it she has pooped on her pants . You had to clean her up and wear her another clothes.
For the first time in years the children got to school by 9 and you got to work by 9;30.
You even forgot two school bags at home.
At 5pm,school called to come pick them up.
You left work to meet them and drove them home .
Thinking you would find your wife at home but no. You called her line but was switched off .
You started cooking dinner, and the children started saying " daddy help me with my assignment" haaaa help with assignment ke.
assignment for 4 kids, each one of them had two assignments to be done . You told them to wait till you finish cooking.
You didn't wash the dirty plates and their uniforms either.
The evening was spent shouting "leave there ,stop it ,don't beat him ,take it away ,drop it there ".
You kept trying your wife's number not to beg her but to tell her to come and take her children but her number wasn't reachable
The following day was worse because they got to school by 10 and you were questioned at work.
You decided to stylishly drop the children with your sister, you saw that there was a home lesson teacher who comes to do their home work. You saw a house help who comes every evening to clean up their house, meanwhile your sister only has three children, she told you her husband employed them.
You start to wonder how your wife does all these and yet she goes to work at 8am too.
On Wednesday, the children didn't go to school at all because you do not know the excuse to tell again about them not doing their assignments because everything has piled up and you dont even know where to start
You've been asking everyone to help you beg your wife but she said even if she'll come back you should atleast take care of the kids for one month.
Now you're saying she doesn't love you that you were just pranking her.
Continue pranking her for a whole month and she'll consider coming back or not.
One thing that has always fascinated me is how some Nigerian men talk about pregnancy.
They have mothers who sold in the market throughout their pregnancies. They have wives who work until they go on maternity leave. They have sisters who raised toddlers while carrying another baby. They have seen women cook, clean, work, commute, and care for their families while pregnant.
Yet the moment they see a video of a pregnant white woman going to the gym, hiking, or simply being active, they suddenly act as if Nigerian women are lazy.
Where did this narrative come from? The women in your own life have been active through pregnancy for decades, so why are they invisible until it's time to compare them with someone else?
Maybe the issue isn't that Nigerian women are lazy, maybe you just hate your women so much you no longer see their strength.
Ladies, I beg of you. Outsource your house chores if you can. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, anything at all. There’s no award for suffering. The term “wife material” is more of an insult than a compliment.
Y’ALL WOULD BE SURPRISED HOW MANY PEOPLE LEAVE WORK, GO HOME, EAT, SHUT THE DOOR, SCROLL THROUGH THEIR PHONE UNTIL THEY FALL ASLEEP, AND ENJOY THEIR LITTLE WORLD. THAT’S IT. THAT’S THEIR LIFE.
Please no one should move m@d and go digging for Alex Ekubo’s sick or hospital photos to post and chase clout. He was a proud solid man who wanted to be remembered the same way we knew him. Let’s respect that.
My own hot take is that nothing will stop a partner who is bent on embarrassing you, no matter how careful, cautious, discreet, or calculating you are.
This is an unfortunate end to an online newspaper that was once-great.
I don’t think it is fair or professional to insinuate David is a thief (with zero evidence) after all his hardwork on the WAW newspaper which he created and grew with his sweat, his blood and his life.
Organisations can part ways with their founders for ideological reasons or otherwise but to pour stain on a man’s reputation out of spite is quite sad to see.
Unfortunately some people don’t like David for political reasons, I also disagree with him on some issues but I will never lend my voice, out of spite, to bury a man who has done no wrong.
Principles have to be principles.
Even if the person is not someone you like. If we are only kind to people we like, we are no longer a society with values, but a jungle of degenerates.
