BRUTALLY SCARY. BUT ABSOLUTELY TRUE:
1. You are what you do, not what you promise you'll do.
2. No one will realize your value until your absence is felt.
3. Don't fight for someone to love you; fight for someone who already does.
4. Never think that a person of peace is not skilled at war.
5. Just a minute of anger, lust, or greed can destroy a lifetime of hard work.
6. Any lesson you refuse to learn will keep coming back until you face it.
7. The longer you stay on the wrong train, the more expensive it becomes to return home.
8. Fear will never stop death; it will only ruin what's left of your life.
9. You will never heal in the same environment that made you sick.
10. Nothing is worse than avoiding your full potential.
11. Real wealth is having no health problems.
It is a common mindset in Nigeria that as a 2.2 graduate, you are either disadvantaged, an educational liability, or someone who went to the University to “waste” their school fees. In fact, when I was in my third year in school, a HOD of Microbiology department in UNN once said in a statement released in the department journal that anyone who graduates with a 2.2 is a total waste of their parents money.
Even in the Nigerian labout market, preferences are given to First class and 2.1 graduates during employment, which means the chances of landing mouthwatering offers look slim.
While these notions are being held about 2.2 graduates, I feel it’s a personal determination on the part of the candidate to step up and change the narrative. Again, It is a common saying by many that as a 2.2 graduate (with a certain CGPA) you can’t do masters, unless through PGD, which is true, but, it doesn’t mean all hope is lost.
The question then remains, how then do 2.2 candidates get fully funded scholarships?
Even in the academic world, top scholarship offers like Erasmus Mundus and co usually specify that their applications is open to First class and 2.1 candidates (usually written with a certain CGPA range), but, again certain scholars who graduated with 2.2 have found a way to land fully funded like their colleagues.
A certain scholar, Yusuf Martins trended on Twitter last year when he was interviewed by another scholar and stated how he landed two fully funded scholarships (ANSO and CSC - both Chinese scholarships) with a 2.2 (3.3 or 3.4 CGPA) from Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU). He said he achieved this by letting himself know that he was not disadvantaged contrary to the opinions of the average Nigerian mindset and set out to work by:
1. Publishing his https://t.co/0vpDGUylgf. Thesis in an academic journal.
2. Volunteering in areas relevant to his field.
3. Very important, he stated that since he knew most of the scholarships will require a first class or 2.1, he made sure he started sending cold mails to professors in some universities months before some of these scholarship applications opened. Why?
Sending these mails to them to work as a graduate research assistant in their labs, will make him build a personal relationship with them and enable them to see him as someone serious, hence, recommending him to the scholarship board when they begin to make decisions. Mind you, most of these professors are influential and have slots.
He stated that weeks before the Chinese Scholarship applications opened, he has gotten enough acceptance letters from professors who were willing to take him in their labs and he got offers.
Even the Almighty Chevning scholarship had 6 Nigerian 2.2 candidates who won the scholarship this year. One of them is my friend and connect on LinkedIn. But while applying, Chevning will state on their homepage that it’s a minimum of 2.1, but, information is power and 2.2 are getting offers just like their other colleagues.
Currently, the SISGP (Swedish Scholarship) is currently ongoing. It is a fully funded scholarship for people willing to study in Sweden. 2.2 graduates can apply. In fact, it’s a perfect scholarship for 2.2 candidates. Only thing they require is work experience (up to 3000 hours), pay for your application fee after applying to the individual institution, Demonstration of leadership experience in your employment, reference letters from your employers, sound statement of purpose (motivation letter) and your CV. (Link to this scholarship and details in the comments)
Schools in Canada accept 2.2 graduates. A close friend of mine has resumed her graduate assistant role in University of Alberta this week after years of hearing the whole “You can’t do a masters with a 2.2”. All you need is to volunteer in relevant areas in your field, publish your academic thesis, send cold mails continually to professors in your field, join academic forums etc.

10 INTERVIEW PREPARATION CHECKLIST!
Here’s your quick preparation guide before you walk into that interview room looking like you actually have your life together.
1. Research the company
Don’t just skim the homepage. Know what they do, who they serve and what makes them special. If they ask “Why us?”, you won’t panic.
2. Understand the job description
Go through the Job Description line by line. Know what skills they want, the tools they use and how your experience matches.
3. Prepare your examples
Have at least 2–3 real stories ready to prove your skills.
4. Practice common questions
Not to memorize answers but just to avoid freezing.
- Examples: Tell me about yourself, why should we hire you, strengths, weaknesses.
5. Plan your outfit
Keep it neat, clean and professional. First impressions matter, even if the company is “chill”.
6. Check your resume
Make sure your resume is updated, clear and matches the job. No typos, no random fonts.
7. Prepare smart questions to ask
Instead of “How’s the culture?”, go for something like: “What does success look like in this role?”
8. Confirm the interview details
Time, platform, person you’re meeting, dress code, location, everything. Don’t be that person who gets lost and arrives sweating.
9. Bring your essentials
Resume copies, notebook, pen, portfolio or anything related to your work.
10. Sleep early
Your brain needs to function. Don’t enter the interview looking like you just survived a group assignment at 3AM.

Interview question: "Tell me about yourself?"
Typical answers that interviewers get tired of hearing:
❌ "My name... My age... I live in..."
❌ "I love learning new things."
❌ "I am a hardworking & fast learner."
What exactly do they want?
👉 They want to see who you are as a professional, not your life history.
👉 They want to understand what your strengths are and what makes you relevant for the role.
👉 They want to see clarity, confidence & direction.
So how do you give smart, smooth and stand out answers?
Use this formula. 👇
1) Start with your professional identity
Example:
"I'm a content strategist with experience in social media & data-driven marketing..."
For the interviewer, clear picture in just 1 line.
2) Share 1–2 measurable achievements
Achievement doesn't have to be bombastic. Enough something that shows impact.
Example:
“… In my previous position, I managed the content calendar for 3 brands and managed to increase engagement by 40% in 4 months."
3) Connect with skills that are closely related to the job
Pick 2–3 skills that the role really needs.
Example:
"Most of my work involves content planning, analytics & audience behaviour..."
4) Close with direction, where you want to go
This is where you show alignment with the company.
Example:
“… That's why I'm looking for a role that can give exposure to bigger campaigns and teams that like to experiment."
Example of a solid answer:
"I am a content strategist who focuses on social media & data-driven campaigns. In my previous position, I managed several brands and managed to increase the engagement of one brand by 40% in four months through more strategic content mixing.
Most of my work revolves around content planning, analytics and understanding audience behavior, things that I see as important for this role.
Now I am looking for opportunities to scale up on bigger campaigns and contribute to an agile and creative team, which is why I am confident this position aligns with my career direction."
