5.5+ hours into a nationwide Verizon outage impacting millions. At this duration, it’s extremely unlikely this is a routine software bug or misconfiguration — those are typically rolled back or isolated much faster.

Extended outages at this scale usually point to a large-scale external event: DDoS against authentication/DNS/signaling layers, a coordinated cyberattack, or a major upstream infrastructure failure.

Whatever the root cause, this is critical-infrastructure-level bad.

@cnnbrk It just came back up here for me on the East Coast. It has been down since roughly 1130am local so roughly 10 hours ...... and of course no updates from Verizon. Something seems amiss!

Apparently it was not just VZW. Even though I think the magnitude was much create with Verizon Wireless than others. @VerizonNews needs to be fully transparent on what happened; how it happened; what they are doing to prevent it from happening again!

@VerizonSupport any update on this outage. Can we expect discounts on our bills once the network is back up? No updates really since this started is not okay. Please provide more actual updates and details. Is it software update related or something else?
