Today we've published a new essay on our series on how to fix climate journalism
The author is our alumni @daudpasaney, who argues that journalists should be persistent and collaborate with others to get good data about climate change.

We are likely to experience a new warmest year on record in the next 5 years.
New @WMO & @metoffice report shows that annual global mean near-surface temperatures from 2026–2030 are likely to range between 1.3°C - 1.9°C above the 1850-1900 average.

Booked my @Official_PIA Islamabad-Gilgit flight almost two months ago. Today, 3 weeks before departure, PIA sends message that the flight is cancelled. How does an airline know, weeks in advance, that a scheduled flight won’t operate? Any accountability? @CMShehbaz@official_pcaa

The Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) is a region of profound contrast.
It has some of the world’s most vital ecosystems, providing essential resources that sustain mountain communities. However, these natural bounties remain vulnerable, and are increasingly threatened by the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.
Current regional estimates reveal a staggering USD 12 trillion financing gap between now and 2050 for necessary mitigation and adaptation efforts. This places an immense financial burden on HKH countries, which need approximately USD 769 billion annually to implement effective climate solutions.
In response, ICIMOD is leveraging investment by convening key stakeholders across the global funding landscape to secure the capital required for urgent climate action.
As a central pillar of this initiative, the Hindu Kush Himalaya Investment Conference 2026 brought together the financing community to gather ideas, align strategies, and build the collaborative framework needed to address pressing shared challenges of the Hindu Kush Himalaya.

I rent at One Constitution Avenue. Last night, at around 1 AM, I was jolted awake by aggressive banging on my door. My heart raced — I initially feared thieves or intruders had broken in. When I stepped out, I was confronted by nearly 50 heavily armored police officers, rude and visibly ready to beat us up if we resisted. They did not deny it was a forced eviction.
The security staff and police showed no court order, no legal documents, and offered no explanation. They merely barked instructions: vacate the premises by 12 noon today. Only in the morning did I learn that this midnight raid was supposedly backed by a court order. Why am I not surprised? This is precisely what we have come to expect from Pakistan’s “protocol courts.”
The building has been in legal dispute for over 20 years. During all this time, the courts allowed people to buy apartments, invest their hard-earned money, and rent them out lawfully. Tenants like me exercised our individual property rights and tenancy rights in good faith. Now, all of a sudden, without any prior notice, hearing, or reason, they want us to vacate overnight. What court in the world issues such an order — authorizing 50 armed policemen to raid a residential building at 1 AM, treating law-abiding citizens like criminals?
I called several journalists, but none showed interest. There should have been TV crews and radio teams here to document this injustice. Our judges appear to be uneducated protocol seekers rather than guardians of justice and the Constitution.
Is this judgment lawful in any manner? Even if an eviction were technically legal after 20 years of disputes, should it ever be executed in such a brutal, inhumane, and overnight fashion — without basic dignity, due process, or time for residents to arrange alternatives? This sets a terrifying precedent for every tenant and property owner in the country. Property rights are being trampled, and ordinary citizens are left helpless.
What is it about judges hate for buildings. ?

District Emergency Officer Syed Shoaib Mansoor has said that the debris contains massive boulders. ”Heavy machinery and expert teams are busy in removing them. The search operation will continue in the mine debris until the missing worker’s body is recovered.”
Nine workers were killed when a mine collapsed on Tuesday; one is still missing. “My only prayer is that we recover my son’s body soon. We want to take him back to our ancestral home.”
