@BertDalziel Big, fat, happy, old cat and new rescue dog coming to us in Sept (after awful premature death of previous precious dog in Jan). I’m sorry about your parents’ lovely dog.
@sigourneybeaver I’m so glad she died peacefully and I hope the easing of the awful tension means that you can at least finally get some sleep and have greater strength to be able to face the sadness. I’m so sorry.
@BertDalziel I might have been persuaded by the easier convalescence point but the teeth crowding…??!! Neither of mine were ill much or for long as babies but both have teeth like piranhas.
@BertDalziel@sigourneybeaver Also far cheaper. If you wear the same thing 5 days a week, you need fewer clothes overall. My boys own far fewer than my sister’s who have no uniform.
@katrosenfield The Warden is v moving and unusual. A very special book. I loved all the Barchester series but the Warden is quite different from the rest of the series.
@icod Totally agree. The forced retirement storyline is actually a bit horrid with the Brian/Tony/Carol mirroring. hope it doesn’t spill into a lesson on either dementia or assisted dying. I may have to take a break….
@emeraldsteps@PitchPublishing@JohnLeonard1908 I’m so sorry to hear about your brother’s death. Sort of wonderful that his life is still bearing fruit after death. Wonderful and very painful. Xxxx
@BertDalziel Sounds like much the best option then. Keep things calm, make sure your little boy is not having a horrible time when he is playing and then move on. It’s so hard when other children are more sophisticated than your own and use it against them. Have been there many times!
@BertDalziel I think limit and supervise is good option (although hard work for you). Confrontation is difficult and could make local life stressful, which is hard for everyone. I would save that for when you really have no choice - although I am a bit of a coward.
@icod It is an excellent and extremely moving book. Her characters in composite remind me of my mother who was a very sensitive, unusual person who loved the everyday. I have loved all her books.
@preta_6 Same. I didn’t plan it, or feel ideologically wedded to it, it was the only way anyone got any sleep! My 8 year old still gets into bed with us if he wakes in the night. I will miss him when he doesn’t.
@BDSixsmith Your mother reminds me of mine. Both intelligent, fiercely committed Christians who changed the world around them in subtly important ways. I bought your poetry anthology as a consequence. My mother would have been v moved by it, as I am.
