Otra idea que me obsesiona estos días: comunicar incertidumbre.

La predicción meteorológica es cada vez mejor. Salvavidas. Tenemos que pensar en cómo usarla más y mejor de alerta temprana, para actuar antes de catástrofes como Valencia. Decidir qué hacer y dónde: avisar, desalojar, evacuar. Tiene que funcionar las medidas que existían en 1999 y también las nuevas de 2024.

Pero eso obligará a gestionar las inevitables FALSAS ALARMAS.

Un sistema de prevención eficaz tiene que fallar por exceso. Y la ciudadanía tiene que estar preparada e informada de que eso no será una negligencia, sino un éxito. Si quieres prevenir lo extraordinario, es casi inevitable sobreactuar otras veces.

Comunicar esa incertidumbre es un reto que conozco por mi trabajo en predicción. Es difícil explicar que un suceso de probabilidad 10% puede ocurrir, que es real y debe ser contemplado, que incluso puede determinar tu curso de acción, al mismo tiempo que avisas de que 9 de cada 10 veces no ocurrirá.
