BREAKING: I’ve gone home. Great to be rejoining Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation after 28 years. The place I started my media career, with the boss who gave me my first big break. We’re going to have a lot of fun….
A free press is vital in holding the government and other powerful institutions to account on issues critical for the future of our country, including the fight against climate change.
It is completely unacceptable to seek to limit the public’s access to news in this way.
Jo Stevens Shadow DCMS Secretary:
“A free press is vital for our democracy. People have the right to read the newspapers they want. Stopping them from being distributed and printers from doing their jobs is wrong.”
Through the worst days of Covid, our printers, packers, engineers, drivers, wholesalers, shopkeepers and paper boys and girls put their health concerns to one side to ensure everyone who needed news, got it. Today the anti-free speech mob tried to stop them. #buyapaper
Shadow Culture Sec Jo Stevens hits out at the @XRebellionUK protest.
She says: “A free press is vital for our democracy. People have the right to read the newspapers they want.
"Stopping them from being distributed and printers from doing their jobs is wrong.”
Here we go. Better. Thornberry: “This is very worrying and I don't really know what it is that is expected to be achieved and I know that for many older listeners it's very much part of their daily life, getting their paper delivered in the morning and I just think it's wrong.”
Today is one of those days where I wish I could tweet actual personal opinions on news stuff but instead I'll just say buy a paper ...two if you can! Maybe go wild and get one you think you hate as well as your normal choice. Read, compare, decide for yourself.
This morning people across the country will be prevented from reading their newspaper because of the actions of Extinction Rebellion.
This attack on our free press, society and democracy is completely unacceptable.
Here's our exclusive comment piece from Sir David Attenborough on the climate crisis. It's in today's paper, which Extinction Rebellion protesters tried to prevent from reaching our readers with their attack on free speech. #BuyAPaper

It won’t be the first place woke people look for thoughtful and constructive debate on racism in the UK but respect to @TheSun for this brilliant initiative. Rather than calling people names on here, a serious attempt to talk to everyday Britain. https://t.co/sKXDBesrbH
