@Swimmer46@SkrticX@LakeViewCem The name of the sculpture is The Angel of Death Victorious by sculptor Herman Matzen.
It was designed for the grave of Francis Henry Haserot who started Haserot Grocery Company in 1899. If you’ve ever seen a Northern Haserot truck driving around Cleveland, it’s the same guy!
@SkrticX@looseleafreport In middle school, I saw Robby Krieger of the Doors at the Odeon. A bunch of old guys lined up after the show to meet him. I cut the line and everyone was yelling at me. I explained that it was a school night and he looked at the line, said “It’s cool”, and signed an 8x10 photo.
@SkrticX@looseleafreport I saw him speak once at Lakeland Community College. I snuck in early and he was just sitting in the front row, patiently waiting for it to start. He was nice enough to sign my American Splendor book. “Glad ya like them”. To this day, one of only 2 autographs I’ve ever asked for.
@SkrticX Was the generator supplied by the Brush Electric Co? I often see this light attributed to Brush and his lighting of Public Square but never know how true the story is.
@CLEfan1213@PeteMarek I used to work at a stand in the Market. As far as I remember, rent is paid to the City and the Market is a line item in the city’s budget. The Market doesn’t make enough from rent to cover its annual expenses, let alone upkeep. A non-profit managing WSM is essential.
@SkrticX@Cleve_Memory Once the unit unwrapped and the extras disappeared, the crew discovered to their amusement that the boxes weren't empty but filled with real presents, from china to silverware.
@SkrticX@Cleve_Memory The production manager asked the Russian immigrant extras to bring to the location a gift-wrapped box to double for wedding presents. The manager figured if the extras did this, not only would the production save time and money, but the gifts would also look more authentic.
@superd4v3@SkrticX We were essentially a bar band at 15 years old. We’d written some originals but I’m sure we stuck to a mix of classic rock covers. From what I remember it was well received. Around this same time we also took the stage during Armstrong Bearcat set break so we were used to it.
@PeteMarek While we’re at it, can we get the Film Building/Norton Furniture Building turned into apartments and retail? Such a great piece of Cleveland history sitting vacant right next to CSU.
