Excellent day on the Durham Moors highlights include Buzzard x 6, Kestrel x 4+, Sparrowhawk, superb Red Kite, Hen Harrier (ringtail), SEO x 1, displaying snipe, oystercatchers, curlews, stonechats x 3 including a pair displaying & f & m adder

Whilst undertaking a habitat survey for a butterfly transect, two Common Cranes seen flying north over Dalton-on-Tees towards Croft before turning SE. Lost to view just south of the Tees in the Hurworth area @northyorksbirds @BC_Yorkshire

Excellent day in the Durham uplands yesterday. Numerous Black Grouse at 3 sites. One other lek site lost to recently planted saplings. Other highlights included Crossbills, Siskins, ringtail Hen Harrier, short-eared owls including a displaying pair.

Not operated the moth trap for a week as wasps almost outnumbered the moths. A few moths even became prey. Imagine my suprise to find Clifden nonpareil in my Darlington moth trap this morning. Angle shades x 2, the usual Yellow Underwing species, Mouse Moth and no wasps!

My last UK butterfly Glanville Fritillary on the IOW. Stunning underwing. Wall Lizard, Small & Adonis Blue, Grizzled Skipper and Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly provided an excellent supporting cast @savebutterflies

Winners and losers in Darlington yesterday. Brimstone now firmly established and Comma enjoying the sunshine yesterday. Shoulder Stripe in the overnight moth trap now increasingly scarce in VC66.

Walk along the River Tees at Darlington from Croft to Hurworth. Highlights included 35 Fieldfare, 110 Redwing, 2 Kestrels, 1 Sparrowhawk and a unexpected Swallow meandering south.
