@MountainRoche I asked and you delivered. Dang though! I was curious if you took cues from competitive eater training. Nutrition is indeed what I need to really work on so I guess I have my homework now! Thanks David
@ajoneswilkins@MountainRoche Escondido was indeed miserable, but can you imagine how bad it would be if you didn't have a nasal strip and bucket hat to protect you? ๐คฃ
@louieruvolo "Wait, are you suggesting frozen yogurt isn't a health food?? Isn't yogurt healthy?"
I've literally heard this multiple times.
Though I don't really like black and white healthy/unhealthy food delineations, some clearly lean one way or the other, but it's still confusing.
@MountainRoche@JamilCoury@JavelinaJundred@Meg_Runs_Happy Though you're telling us how you did it, I don't know how you did it on Saturday. I was absolutely cooked in the literal sense by halfway through JJ this year!
How did you counter the way that hot conditions (plus exertion) tend to shut down the gut? That was my downfall.
@JWLevitt@slorgebutler@IBuiltTheArk Definitely! He's always happy to chat when we meet up on the trails around town. Speaking of which, I'd love to see him on the trail running scene based on his vibe if nothing else!
@MountainRoche Awesome performance on a brutal day. I dropped after 56 miles in that heat but couldn't believe it when I heard you put a scare on the course record. You're not going to be flying under the radar at states!
@ajoneswilkins Duzer almost never wears hats, but said the bucket saved him yesterday. Not only did it shade him from the sun, it nicely held lots of ice against his head. #bucketFTW
@8ntmuch Hobby jog for an hour, then browse the internet for shoes on sale while enjoying a cold beer. Repeat as necessary.
BTW I get to test the efficacy of my scientific training plan at a 98ยฐ 100 miler tomorrow. I'm using David Roche as a control for this study.
@8ntmuch Javelina Jundred near Phoenix. It might be a record high temperature for the day and I expect an epic dropout rate tomorrow.
I'm not really kidding about my training; though I described it a bit tongue in cheek, I seriously did nothing but easy runs though some were longer
@UltraRunner26 Are the aid stations all-you-can-eat or is it more of a punchcard pay-as-you-eat system? I'm running JJ100 in 2 weeks and wondering if it's more economical to carry my own crock-pot of chili. Might need a pack recommendation.
@serenitynigh@stevemagness Minor nitpick, but the American record is held by Khalid Khannouchi. But your point remains, and no American since Ryan Hall has really come close to pushing the mark lower (Boston 2010 tailwind race aside).
@BuffaloRon Just take the doggo home and then gaslight your wife into thinking that you've always had a dog. "New dog? What new dog? You mean Daisy here? She's always been here. Don't you remember? Are you feeling okay?"
@stevemagness My wife is educated as a clinical (registered) dietitian, but refuses to work in the personal nutrition counseling realm. People are really weird about food.
@MelindaHoward4 I am in peak training for a 100 miler and am currently, at 9:30pm after a big dinner, destroying a Costco container of chicken salad. Tacos sound good too, now that you mention it ๐
@MilkywayEnergy@cumbrianbluess It's totally normal to see different colours. I grew up in northern Canada and saw them all the time. The colours are caused by ionization of different atmospheric molecules which are prevalent at different altitudes.
Or aliens?
@MelindaHoward4 When my boys were little they had a beta fish named "Dinosaurs" who went belly-up the evening before Easter. But hallelujah, an Easter (PetSmart) miracle happened and Dinosaurs came back from the dead before the boys got up for their Easter egg hunt!
