Remember 2019 Lekki Flood?
Yeah the one that had people paddling canoes on the streets… Good!!
Church wedding and Reception was somewhere deep inside mainland and they had pleaded with the couple to lodge somewhere around but the groom refused and they both slept in their “luxurious” houses in Lekki.
Rain started falling in the night and was still drizzling around 11am next morning when the church wedding was supposed to start.
Of cos the couple were still nowhere to be found even around 1pm, of which church ministers had already done the service and everybody don dance tire, we were just waiting for them to show up and exchange rings and be done with service
But of cos they had woken up to their houses submerged in water and you can already imagine how messed up that is.
Sha sha, bride managed to get to church around 2:45pm and we still had to wait for the groom cos his house was farther inside Lekki
Notable mention is that during the long wait, the bride’s grandmother who literally raised the bride had fainted due to high BP issues cos she was stressed for her “daughter” and had been rushed to the hospital and of cos the bride’s brothers and cousins were livid and swore to beat up the groom cos they had warned him to lodge in a nearby hotel but he refused.
Sha sha, groom arrived around 4:15pm and all hell broke loose immediately he stepped down from the car, looking like a shadow of himself, cos baba with his driver and bestman don push hin beautiful Range Rover inside flood all morning. The bride’s cousins saw him and started chasing him around the church’s compound with 2 by 2😂
The priests were sha later able to calm the wàhálà and after asking both families if they still wanted the wedding to go on and got consent, they joined them both.
We started reception around 7pm and like 1 hour into the reception, we got news that the grandma had died. I just shook my head and asked in my mind if this marriage would ever last…
The marriage broke 2 weeks later.

This video lives rent-free in my head. There are places where dreams are killed, but we hardly talk about places where you can't even dream at all. How do you help kids like this know what’s possible?
We had a hard time filming this, it was torturous to listen to.
The sad thing about this is that we hear this isn’t the first time the officer involved is doing this and he has now been redeployed to another station in same Ogun state.
