@SatchelPrice@CodifyBaseball Tend to go hand in hand. If you can get your spin rate up on your fastball, you can effectively use your energy to throw the ball harder. But it also means your breaking stuff is sharper, shit moves more etc..
@Manach_38@CodifyBaseball And then you turn 7 and the tee goes away and you can put it somewhere that is safe and not a detriment to your other movements.
@michael_schlact No better teaching moment for a catcher than calling your game and giving up a late inning monster bomb because you called an inside fastball in the wrong spot ๐
@SwagnShades Huge epiphany for me way back when I realized I missed the cockshot that *is* given every AB prior to that bad strike 3 call. Not often do you see a high school AB where the pitcher didnโt make a mistake that should have been hammered.
@kevinosaki@TreadAthletics And if that batter had the stones to show bunt early, theyโd see a 92 mph 18 inch running 2-seam to whiff underneath as it hit em in the chest

@_JeremyBooth It feels like every rule change where spring training is open season for umpires to fucking crush the rule into the players systems, and once we hit opening day it will loosen up. These calls wonโt happen. At least I *hope* so
@TrebbisTess@bawfuls@billjamesonline@graham_powell Hard to say that he wouldnโt, purely because if he was a player today and had his whole playing career with access to todays knowledge and tools he still very well could have been a great player.
@NorCalU1@DaveRowan101@PaulReddick567 Itโs just much easier now to show progress, and incremental gains versus an eye test or just a radar gun. I love where itโs going and the average level of play is just going to increase. Rising tide, all boats etc.
@NorCalU1@DaveRowan101@PaulReddick567 Absolutely. Itโs a growing pain phase of data being introduced at all levels. Good coaches I feel have always done it, at least every coach I look back at in my playing career that excelled at sending players to their next steps did.
@NorCalU1@DaveRowan101@PaulReddick567 Totally agree, Iโm in the camp of coaching and developing skills that translate to the next level, if you are telling a high school kid who throws 70 poo to just get better at locating you are effectively setting their ceiling.
@DaveRowan101@PaulReddick567@NorCalU1 Nobody is telling kids to throw it at the backstop and give up bombs. But considering only 2 of the top 30 MLB ERA leaders have avg fastball velo under 90โฆ if you want to be successful at the next level, you have to throw hard.
