A great TedTalk (not really a talk, per se) that demonstrates code switching versus explaining; I’m thinking of ways to implement this in my classroom, maybe during a voice unit? - https://t.co/G4qzsrL0yn
The amount of times that I heard "it is going to be rough, but we will get through it" is a considerate amount - and I cannot be frustrated about it. Rather, I am trying to take this as a learning experience for when I am an instructor. #ENG350
As a student, the most conflicting thing for me is transitioning from 18 in-person credit hours to 18 online credit hours. From having in person instruction every single day to having to send emails and communicate via webcam - this is a rough transition. #ENG350
The stress and consistent notifications that I am receiving is probably nothing. I can only imagine how my instructors are feeling by having to move entirely online - especially if they have never taught an online class. #ENG350
@eckenrothcay Completely agree with managing classroom time better, but what about the students that are super picky about the environment they read in? #ENG350
@TeachingOlivia to be able to accomodate the needs of every single student in the classroom on a consistent basis? Or what if not all students have the same interests? Where would be implement our focuses as educators? #ENG350 (2/2)
@TeachingOlivia Well, the more important question or thought that I am trying to provoke is - do you think this would legitimately work in a classroom? It means no agenda to be pushed and gearing towards the needs of students. But do we have the ability to spread ourselves so thin #ENG350 (1/2)
I love whenever someone tells me that I am going to school for a profession that would have me go back to school. The purpose of this is that I am always learning - whether it is actual subject matter, about myself, or just in general. That is the beauty of education #ENG350
Reading through this thread assures me the importance and the figure that teachers play in a students life and how excited I am to pursue my educational career! #ENG350
Two moments in two days that fill my heart with gratitude.
Yesterday after last period —
Student: “Hey, Mr. S, just wanted to thank you for the poetry you share every day in class.”
Me: “Of course! Words are powerful and need to be shared.”
"creating optimistic endeavors". Encouragement and assurance will not only create a optimistic outlook in the classroom, but for students when they are outside the classroom. #ENG350
I think encouraging lessons where students demonstrate confidence and assure them that they are significant will create a healthier environment! #ENG350
G&K - different opportunities, choices, and strategies for teaching.
C3WP - same opportunities and one choice
G&K focuses on variability & individualism of the student as the C3WP focuses on standardization. #ENG350
@beccamunson @ncte Living through the experiences that you read about gives us an escape into another dimension, whether it is an article or source, a fictional story, etc. That is - the true power of reading. #ENG350
Reading through the last chapter of "180 Days" made me realize how valuable it is to engage a reader in an argument and grab their attention, as it would be difficult to change someones current perception regarding a topic. #ENG350
"We want them to gather evidence, explain, interpret, and look beyond the surface of the arguments swirling around them.." (Gallagher & Kittle, 189). This quote demonstrated to me that arguing and debating are two completely different things! #ENG350
