Dans le Grand Est, plusieurs centaines de nos compatriotes ont perdu la vie. Plus de 700 sont en état grave, placés en réanimation. Je m’associe à la douleur des familles, des proches. La Nation tout entière est là. À vos côtés.
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" is one of the oldest proverbs about teaching. Perseverance is key!
And about #ENG350, it also applies to the process of writing.
But how can we convince kids to not stop after their first draft?
"The greatest teacher, failure is".
This is one of the most powerful quotes that ever came from this trilogy, and it is absolutely an essential truth for teachers to keep in mind about students. After all,
"we are what they grow beyond."

hello. i am not organized. by ANY means. i don’t own any folders and my room looks like a bomb went off at any given moment, but i’ve heard a lot of people saying they’re struggling to get organized with online classes so here’s what i do 1/?

Graphs are useful but to really get what that rising curve is, have a look at the obituaries page of this Bergamo daily newspaper, comparing one from February with one from now
"Do, or do not. There is no try."
40 years ago, Yoda shared a very strong concept: intention is essential to success.
However, when it comes to writing, it may not hurt to try. What do you think, #ENG350 people?
@hannah_eadie Great idea! That is an interesting way to learn practically without the stress of not knowing what to write. Also, portfolios are a kind of end result that students can be proud of (they're diverse and complex!) #ENG350
A lot of our students might be taking online classes for the first time, so I wonder if we could compile a list of things they will want to consider as they move to fully online classes? What has worked for you? What do you suggest?
@davidappleENG@eckenrothcay We should of course do our best to grant them the best environment, but adaptability can also be a valuable skill to teach through this!
However, it also makes me grateful for the teachers I've had who always found a way to include useful feedback and tried to turn every opportunity into a learning experience. Teaching is meaningful.

Working on the differences between grading and assessing makes me realize how easy it would be to get "results" that are absolutely not beneficial to students, and how unproductive teaching could be if we only do it the "easy" way. #ENG350
"Sometimes the 'right lesson' doesn't come from our lesson plan book (and almost never from a pacing guide someone else has written)" (G&K pg. 91). I feel like this is something that needs to be remembered for our first years. #ENG350
"plan to change your plans" (G&K, 91)
I don't know about you guys, but this is one of the things that stresses me out the most when I think about teaching in the future. But at the same time, that's what makes it exciting #ENG350
Absolutely agree! It's impossible to be a good writer if you don't read a LOT. Reading is a powerful tool that teaches a lot - without you even noticing it! #ENG350
#ENG350 “you learn to read by reading and you learn to write by reading” - Frank Smith
yes!! it is impossible to entirely separate the teaching of reading and writing when exceeding in one of them is so intrinsically linked to doing well in the other !
Just had a very odd experience.
In an English-speaking room, I read a message from my brother (in French with German words) and my brain instantly realized that the language I was hearing in the background was a "foreign" one. It's so fascinating to see how the brain "clicks"!
I can't wait to see where my student is at! This new workshop will be an opportunity to not only test new concepts but hopefully help these students learn how to build powerful arguments and develop skills that will be useful for their whole life!

One of the challenges of writing conferences is assessing the student’s work and having a normal conversation at the same time. We need to make sure our feedback is delivered in a way that is palatable to students. #ENG350
