The scientist has a lot of experience with ignorance and doubt and uncertainty, and this experience is of very great importance, I think.
When a scientist doesn't know the answer to a problem, he is ignorant. When he has a hunch as to what the result is, he is uncertain. And when he is pretty darn sure of what the result is going to be, he is in some doubt. We have found it of paramount importance that in order to progress we must recognize our ignorance and leave room for doubt. Scientific knowledge is a body of statements of varying degrees of certainty — some most unsure, some nearly sure, but none absolutely certain.
Kharkiv. Right now.
A russian-iranian Shahed hits a dormitory. Fire. Evacuations underway.
When it’s Dubai, the world is outraged.
When it’s Kharkiv, the world scrolls past.
Ukrainian lives are not worth less. Our lives are not cheaper.
Overnight into Saturday, Russia carried out another massive attack on Ukraine, deploying over 400 drones and nearly 40 missiles of various types. Producing this weaponry would be impossible without critical foreign components, which the Russians continue to obtain by circumventing sanctions. We are introducing new sanctions precisely against such companies – component suppliers, as well as missile and drone manufacturers. I have signed the relevant decisions.
A second decree applies sanctions against Russia’s financial sector. This list includes companies through which payments are made for the supply of components used in the production of Russian missiles and drones. Sanctions have also been imposed on agencies that support Russia’s crypto market and mining operations. Some of these decisions will be included in the European Union’s 20th sanctions package, which is already in its final stage.
We continue synchronization with our partners and increase pressure on the aggressor. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine.
Yet another massive Russian attack on Ukraine last night.
Russia attacked energy infrastructure in the western parts of Ukraine.
Emergency electricity shutdowns in Ukraine.
There are injured and a lot of damage.
Yet another Russian war crime.
Remember this, kids:
An attempted assassination of a very high-ranking Russian general responsible for mass war crimes is an “attempt to derail peace negotiations.”
Meanwhile, daily missile terror, the mass killing of civilians, depriving millions of people of electricity and heat in the middle of a record-cold winter, along with open calls to destroy Ukraine as a nation — are all perfectly fine and in no way a disruption of the “peace process.”
Don’t get it mixed up!

You know, in a world of mentally healthy people, when an aggressor, right in the middle of so-called “peace talks,” goes ahead and destroys a thermal power plant with missile strikes (a plant that, in the dead of winter, was providing heat to roughly half a million residents of the capital of the defending state) — that would be an automatic signal to stop wasting time and nerves, stand up, and walk away from the negotiating table.
Because it would be obvious to anyone with even a shred of common sense that an aggressor committing such war crimes is in no way prepared for any kind of “peace settlement” and is merely putting on a performance with these “negotiations.”
But you really have to possess the level of competence and conscience of Donald Trump to keep up this pointless farce and, with a straight face, lavish praise on such “peace-loving” behavior of a criminal aggressor.
Over the course of a lifetime, we face only a few moments where the decisions we make and the actions we take will shape our history for years to come. This is one of them.
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
I make no apology for posting this photo. I think it’s a photo that will haunt America in the years to come.
