@BBC@LBC@LTDA@WAYMO driverless car traveling E/B Pall Mall panics because Pall Mall East is closed & diverted to the bust gate Cockspur St, turns left into 4 lanes of on coming traffic in Haymarket. It was a miracle nobody was hurt
The Mayor says black cabs are iconic. Steve says numbers have fallen from 22k to 13k
Bored of these iconic compliments
At some point, the discussion has to move beyond telling us how valued we are and onto explaining how the decline is going to stop.

And since you are British: London Black Cabs actually prove the opposite of the “too complicated” argument.
Britain already has a mainstream taxi model where ramp access is expected, ordinary, and built into the vehicle category. That is precisely why Waymo’s exclusion of non-transfer power wheelchair users is so glaring.
The safety/liability point is not an excuse to avoid access. It is the reason access has to be engineered properly: ramp/lift access, safe gradients, adequate clearance, wheelchair securement where needed, occupant restraint, boarding stability, emergency procedures, and independent usability.
If someone tips or is injured because access is badly designed, that is an accident and foreseeable liability.
But if a company refuses to design for access at all while scaling transportation infrastructure, that is also a foreseeable civil-rights problem.
London Black Cabs show accessible design can be normalized.
Waymo should be improving on that model, not retreating behind “maybe later.”

I can’t begin to describe how disgraceful this government are when it comes to sneaky tax rises and raiding the pockets of families. Were you aware that your Pension savings, which were previously exempt are now going to be subject to 40% Inheritance tax. So where previously your pension would go tax free to your grieving spouse and family, it’s now gonna fall foul of IHT. Even worse the pension company are allowed to hold on to 50% of the pension for up to 15 months. Inheritance tax is totally immoral anyway but now it will apply to even more people in money they thought was safe.

I think the host manages the interviews well.
Imagine all 3 Org Gen-Secs ( no hangers on) sitting in that room after a trade wide data vote result & the topic being ‘what to do about that result’
Think everyone is sick of years of ‘no coordination’ & no results!
This is shocking on multiple levels.
A Freedom of Information request revealed that 158 individuals granted private hire licences had prior convictions for violent offences. In addition, 61 had drug-related convictions, 36 had drink-driving offences, and 4 had sexual offence convictions.
Overall, the FOI showed that 438 licences were issued to individuals with criminal records in the last year alone.
Further concern arises from reporting by @carolinegall1, which conflates taxi drivers with private hire drivers. These licences were granted to minicab drivers, not licensed taxi drivers - an important distinction that risks diverting attention from what is increasingly being highlighted as a very serious issue.

All comes back to no coordinated strategy. Grass roots drivers saw the need for it, 1 Org was open to it. If you live in a messy environment, don’t be surprised when there’s no direction. Unite or stay as you are or should I say “1 tier or 4, it’s up to you” 😬
@Nevindrivr In fairness, the argument was made years ago when the seeds were first being planted- now the consequences are unfolding.
More than ever, cabbies need to get behind trade-led platforms.
