I really need everyone to understand this.

If SMU is left out, it's not Alabama that took their spot in the CFP. It was Clemson. Because Clemson literally just beat them for the automatic bid. Clemson wasn't in... And wouldn't be if there were no AQs.

🤦‍♂️ Why do so many people have trouble understanding this? Both Alabama and SMU were already in the field. SMU lost against a team they were favored against in what was essentially a playoff game. It's a game they had to win, otherwise their resume was going to be picked apart like everyone else. And there's nothing on that resume to keep them in, other than "well, they were #8 last week!"

Now, if this is for TV, maybe the committee is good with Clemson fulfilling their big brand quota. Maybe they don't want multiple teams with 3 losses in the field.

But... I would almost guarantee that the automatic qualifiers & big non-con games will disappear soon if it looks like the committee is only concerned with number of wins / losses and not the quality of those. 🤷‍♂️

Curious y'all's thoughts on this. I've got no idea what they're going to do here... But I do know that Jim Phillips' interview on Gameday didn't help the ACC at all. I'm sure he enjoyed watching Jordan Travis lead that SMU comeback. Lol.

Ok. I'm tired, and I'm going to bed. But tomorrow's decision is going to alter the future of this playoff and college football in a big way.
