In 1153 #OTD died David mac Maíl Choluim, David I, at Carlisle. Arguably most powerful medieval Scottish or Gaelic ruler, at peak his power extended from Orkney to Lancashire. Founded dozens of towns & religious houses, 1st coinage, etc, hence concept of a 'Davidian Revolution'.
It’s the 225th anniversary of the 1798 rebellion. The Irish state should be commemorating this in massive, funded way - the United Irishmen are a signpost to the future and the unity of Protestant, Catholic and Dissenter. Instead we get…nothing. Make 2023 a year to remember.
@geoffmcfarlan Political annexation yes, but tbh I don't see a mass influx of population anytime soon, especially in the north. I live in North Ontario and there are 2 reasons 95% of Canadians live along the border - one is climate which you can dress for, the real reason is the bugs!!!🦟🦟🦟
Does anyone know where I might find the original Irish version? Or if it even exists in print? It's a lecture Máirtín gave for the Communist Party but there's no date on it. I'd love to reproduce the original Irish talk he gave for this Marxist anthology I'm compiling.
Pierre Poilievre has a history of Residential School denialism.
Now he's platforming one of the most vicious deniers in the country.
It is dangerous and violent.
When someone shows you who they are. Believe them.

@FoundnAntiquity Thanks! I just got into learning both ancient and modern Greek, in my experience speaking modern Irish has really helped with learning Old Irish, which like ancient Greek is notoriously challenging for English speakers!
Funny, I just started getting into Greek both ancient and modern, and getting back into Latin. From my experience speaking modern Irish really helps with learning Old Irish!
I'm a classicist by training, and I've just started learning Modern Greek and I'm loving it. It's a lot less intimidating to learn Modern Greek than I used to think it would be, so here's a 🧵 on how I'm doing it. 1/
Is féidir éisteacht siar le clár an lae inniu anseo, agus ómós á thabhairt do laochra atá imithe uainn ró luath. Beannacht Dé le Séamus Ó Beaglaoich agus le Tomás Ó Cruadhlaoich. @RTERnaG

We’re pleased to announce that National Museums Scotland will be transferring the House of Ni'isjoohl Memorial Pole to the Nisga’a Nation.
A Nisga’a delegation visited us in August to see the Pole and to make a formal request for its return.
