I hope philadelphia enjoys all of these new visitors who absolutely won't ever come back after their experience waiting 3 hours for a bsl train after the world cup :)
SEPTA anticipates 40,000 people using the Broad Street Line after World Cup games. At maximum capacity, the transportation agency can move 15,000 people per hour. https://t.co/ieQA2YNviP
As a certified Album Listener, it really should be illegal to put the best track way at the end of your record. Looking at you, John Prine (In Spite of Ourselves)… it’s the damn title track! Talk about burying the lede…
Bill Simmons demonstrating levels of brainpower similar to the person I served on a jury with who couldn't stop saying they thought the defendant was guilty because he didn't testify in his own defense
NBA award voter Bill Simmons admits he switched his 6MOY vote from Jaime Jaquez Jr to Keldon Johnson after Miami lost in the play in game 😳
“The play in did change my 6MOY vote. I had Jaquez over Keldon Johnson but then Miami lost on Wednesday and I was just like ‘I’m going to have the 6MOY on a team that couldn’t get to the last round of the play in?’ I switched it. That’s the leagues fault. They should’ve made us vote before the play in game”

Wondering if any of this money could go toward repairing the leak that's been pouring out of the ceiling at the Southbound BSL City Hall platform for the past six months? I may be accustomed to impromptu water features on the subway, but I fear our tourists won't be prepared...
Exclusive @TheAthleticFC
Philadelphia’s World Cup committee ensures FREE transport for fans leaving their stadium this summer, assisted by partnership with Airbnb. The in-bound SEPTA ticket to the venue is also staying at usual $2.90.

Actually gustav mahler was as far I understand it a giant asshole, but nevertheless, this is scandalous.
Of course real ones know the TRUE friends of the young is the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society
The Philly Orchestra has made a MOCKERY of its "young friends" program. They're not even discounting the tickets! A Young Friends ticket is $79; the same exact seat without discount is $88.48 (i.e. $79 with $9.48 of fees).
This is antithetical to the spirit of Gustav Mahler!
@andyblarsen Andy, we need you to use your NBA connections to get people talking about this genius idea from reddit:
Teams don't own their picks, instead at the end of season they draft (worst-to-first order) whose picks they'll have *next* year. https://t.co/wyfzDhm2WD
@ZachLowe_NBA You need to see this proposal from Reddit: All 30 teams draft (worst-to-first order) whose pick they want *next* season. Solves the problem of linking record directly to draft position but also keeps an advantage for the worst teams. Need your thoughts!

Jazz give away a free Delta flight in the timeout. Fans missing layup after layup before one finally makes one to get the flight.
In-arena host Andrea Urban: "Where you gonna go?"
Fan: "Boise, Idaho!"
Andrea: "That seems like an absolute waste!"
Imagine being a professor of "geography, environment, and urban studies" who is afraid of the subway and apparently unfamiliar with concepts such as "walking" or "taking the bus". This has to be a bit, right?
I used to live near this exact block of Philly. The deal is that it's impossible to park, so you can't have a car. Meaning you can't enjoy the countryside, which you will never see, ever, if you live here. Also, the deal is that nobody who can afford that block rides the subway (which in Philly is super dicey and doesn't go to enough neighborhoods to stitch the city together; it doesn't even go to the nice art museum area). So you basically never leave this exact neighborhood and at best you bike to a few adjacent neighborhoods (btw, the bike lanes are bad). So, you really have to enjoy the lifestyle of spending a lot of your income on rent/taxes rooted in place like a houseplant, and you have to like not having any mobility or escape option if during a certain summer all the restaurants and bars close and all your neighbors join a weird wild-eyed ideological cult.
It’s hilarious how many people are defending what is an objectively a low-ish salary for nyc media just because it’s n+1. NY mag is currently hiring an assistant to the eic at $70-$90k.
Then again, Harper’s is hiring an assistant editor at $40k lol. There are levels.
@DavidEpstein and my hat is off to joyce! but it's sort of like ... just bc tom brady won that SB against the falcolns doesnt mean other quarterbacks should try to go down 28-3 in the playoffs. sometimes, GOATs should not be emulated.
My latest story for @phillymag is about the bold and frankly long-overdue plan to reimagine the Ben Franklin Parkway — and make it an actually enjoyable place to walk. Check it: https://t.co/5m42A2n1BV
