The largest study on human happiness revealed something that blew me away.
After 80 years of data, the #1 predictor of your health, wealth, and happiness isn’t what you think.
🌳 Around the country, native forests and croplands are being destroyed by out-of-control and ever-increasing populations of deer, goats, and pigs.
What is the Government doing about it? Proposing to protect these pest species as ‘herds of special interest’.
What New Zealand actually needs is a nationally coordinated action plan to get these pests under control. Native forests can protect us from climate change, but only if we protect them first.

📢 Submissions on the draft herd management plans are now open. Have your say before 8 December!

I was actually in hospital during one of the recent nurses strikes. It was quiet, with fewer staff but there were backups with qualified nurses remaining in place throughout to provide "life supporting" care. I agree with their right to protest and highly value the contribution doctors and nurses make to society (and my care). But it does seem like some of the (union) claims are spurious.
However - one of the nurses I spoke to spends her holidays working on contract in Australia just to keep her family ticking along here in NZ. She should not need to do that.
As a society, for decades we've failed in our collective responsibility to invest in moving up the value chain from being a price-taking, commodities exporting nation. Why we now cannot afford a fully funded health system, high quality education and dignified healthcare. That's the real issue we should ALL be protesting about!

Happy launchiversary, Voyager 1! 🥳
48 years ago – on September 5, 1977 – Voyager 1 launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to study Jupiter and Saturn up close.
Today, Voyager 1 is about 15 billion miles (25 billion km) from Earth – and still revealing secrets of the cosmos!
There's a Rust conference happening in New Zealand next week. Would be fun if you could make it (do you know anyone in Australia or New Zealand worth tagging?)
@ok_lyndsey No real issues, and nothing that I don't see on Slack - knowing that there are other channels than the main one, and people not threading replies. (We are lucky that one of the Koha support providers looks after the server for us.)
