Xiaomi’s Xring O3 has achieved an AnTuTu score of 5.22 million, far surpassing every smartphone processor currently available. Its GPU performance has improved by a massive 85%. The chip features six ultra-large CPU cores plus four additional cores, and is also the first to support LPDDR6 memory.
Singapore just went all in on birth rates
Fertility fell to a record-low 0.87 in 2025. Birth rates have fallen seriously low
That’s not just a dip. That’s a whole country nowhere near replacing itself. It's a massive problem for the country
So Singapore is going directly after the biggest things making parenthood harder: money, time, childcare and housing
Money:
- Every Singaporean child will receive around S$70,000 in direct financial support from birth to age 17
- S$10,000 Baby Gift during the first year
- S$2,000 every year from age 1 to 16.
- Plus MediSave, CDA support, Edusave and another S$10,000 education top-up at 17
- And every child gets the same baseline support regardless of whether they’re the first or fourth child
Time:
Childcare leave is increasing to:
• 8 days for one child
• 10 days for two
• 12 days for three or more
And it now covers children all the way through age 12.
The government will cover the cost of statutory child-related leave up to the reimbursement limit, taking that burden off employers
Housing:
- First-time families will get an extra BTO ballot chance for every child they have or are expecting.
- More kids = more chances of securing a home.
The BTO income ceiling is also rising from S$14,000 to S$16,000
Childcare:
- Government-supported full-day childcare is being pushed toward S$150/month and infant care toward S$300/month by 2030
Cash alone was never going to fix collapsing birth rates.
Singapore is attacking the actual friction around having children: the cost, the time, childcare and getting a home
If you want people to have more children, make having children easier
Singapore is actually trying that
Exciting news: Qwen3.8-27B by @Alibaba_Qwen just landed in Code Arena: WebDev at #9 overall with 1595 pts. It is the only model in its size class in the top 10, and also reshapes the Pareto Frontier!
It is only 6 ranks behind the much larger Qwen3.8-Max. For scale: Gemma 4-31B which was released back in April sits at #80.
Congrats to @Alibaba_Qwen on the release!
See thread for more highlights on Qwen3.8-27B.
This is exactly how we want learning on @UnivadOnline to work. A good community post shouldn’t end at reading.
With @OctanAI, it can become a starting point for questions, context and deeper learning.
Hurts me to say this: Africa will not be saved by entrepreneurship. We cannot vibecode ourselves into the 4th industrial revolution. We still need to industrialize. To achieve this, we need stronger and better public institutions. We need extremely competent leaders at the helm.
Excited to share that I've joined @OpenAI!
I'm joining the Applied AI Engineering team, focusing on startups across the Nordics. I'll also be the first person on the ground in Stockholm getting our new office set up 🇸🇪
I kicked things off with a week in San Francisco. The pace, the people, and the sense of purpose are unlike anything I've experienced at this scale.
If you're building in the Nordics, I'd love to connect!
As we continue to push the frontier of capabilities while improving efficiency, we're dropping API and credit pricing of GPT-5.6 Sol by over 20% for the next 3 months.
SpaceX, in partnership with Nvidia, has designed a space-optimized Vera Rubin NVL72 system for launch to orbit in Q4 next year, with significant scale in 2028

Univad v2 launches August 29th. 🚀
We know you already have your weekend planned, but what’s more exciting than the launch of Univad v2 as the cherry on top?
#Univadv2 launches August 29th.
Terra Industries has closed its seed round at $52M, adding $18M to scale sovereign defense systems protecting critical infrastructure across the Global South.
With Univad v2, your Univad Wallet becomes part of how you learn, earn and transact across the ecosystem.
Earn from paid projects and community opportunities, then choose to use your balance directly when paying for programmes, tools and more.
#Univadv2
@terraindustries raises additional $18M bringing our total seed to $52M. This round was done by existing investors @8vc, @SilentVentures, @svangel, Nova Global, Belief Capital, and Grant Gordon
We're also opening our first global office in London for our Ops and AI teams (1/2)
Agentic work is where @grok 4.6 lands hardest, taking the top spot on the Artificial Analysis Agentic Index at 59, tied with Claude Opus 5 Max.
The index measures tool use, planning, autonomy and complex problem solving rather than single answers
Grok 4.6 completes tasks in ~53 turns and ~0.5bn input tokens on average, against ~103 turns and ~2.0bn for Claude Opus 5 Max
Cost of $0.84 per task, putting it on the intelligence versus cost per task Pareto frontier
Enterprises buying agents pay per completed task, not per benchmark point. Turn efficiency is what determines whether a long-running workflow is affordable at volume.
Two labs now sit at the top of this index with very different cost structures. Buyers get real choice on price for the first time in agentic deployment.
Univad has been validated by 15k+ learners and builders who’ve used our classrooms, tools and resources, represented us, and helped shape our community.
v2 launches August 29, building on what we’ve learned to make @UnivadOnline the place Africans come to learn, build and grow.
