@coconservative7@SamRainer Three problems here: "Certifying" women as pastors contrary to Scripture, "certifying" church work apart from and unaccountable to the local church, and selling the work of God for cash (biblical principle = freely received, freely give).
@coconservative7@marcminter FWIW, our church is a non-Calvinistic, plurality-male-elder-led, congregational Baptist church. And we have non-covenantal church membership.
But you're right: Reformed, elder-led Baptist churches are very unlikely to have female elders.
This looks like a really strong proposal concerning female pastors from the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. They propose an amendment that says an affiliated church...
“affirms the office, function, ordination and title of pastor/elder/overseer to be limited to men as qualified by Scripture. Title shall include any equivalents of the words pastor/elder/overseer, and preaching to the assembled congregation shall be an exclusive function of pastor/elder/overseer or biblically qualified men.”
This is the strongest language I've seen for such an amendment. It would resolve the Fielder Road conundrum if it passes. I hope and pray it does pass at their annual meeting later this year.

What are we doing about the new group exemption letter rules?
The “uniform purpose statements” are going to be very uncomfortable under Baptist polity.

It’s a final rejection of congregationalism in many cases.
The SBC has tried to make congregationalism fuzzy for decades. But congregationalism will probably become an identifier again for people choosing “Baptist” over “non-denominational.”
This entire episode is a sad, predictable train wreck. As predictable as sunrise.
And it’s only the latest confirmation that the leaders and ministers aligned with this congregation do not possess a Biblical view of sexual sin.
But, honest observers have known that for a while.
It's a shame that @Logos Bible Software's free book of the month is from Sam Allberry. They should give away @jaredhmoore's work: "Lust of the Flesh." At least then people would be taught proper exegesis of God's Word.
The one thing that even trumps the Constitution is leadership. All ill-intentioned leaders need to do is ignore the Constitution, the messengers, and the Bible, as we have seen.
The problem here is the argument that *bylaws* cannot amend or limit the Constitutional definition of friendly cooperation.
Probably the courts won’t assist an aggrieved church.
But some churches do want to argue they’re in friendly cooperation while having female pastors.
Pastor of 30+ years here. Not surprised at all by this.
But this isn't the real issue. Pastors continue to prop up "obligatory tithing" as if it is biblical, which it clearly is not.
Teach & practice Spirit-led giving and free God's people to celebrate generosity.
We analyzed $335 million in church donations. The stat that surprised me most: roughly 20% of your donors contribute about 80% of your total giving. The other 80% of donors? They account for about 20% of the dollars.
Perhaps not surprising, but it seems accurate that a small group of faithful givers are carrying the financial weight of most ministries.
@jaredhmoore Grok's update on the Hunt lawsuit. All claims dismissed except one: Bart Barber's claim that implied Hunt committed a felony. https://t.co/Snlvfca2XK
