From what (little) I've read on the phenomenology of tool use, most people seem to talk about the tool as being transparent - objects we experience the world through. That is, except when something goes wrong. Then tools often become objects of experience.

It seems to me that there is constantly fluctuating, fine grained changes in awareness of the tool or even just specific aspects of the tool as you use it.
