The former Langside Hill Church on the Southside of Glasgow. One of my favourite churches in the city, it was designed by Alexander Skirving. Dating from 1894, this was the last of the great Classical style churches constructed in Glasgow.

For those sucking up and regurgitating all the misinformation because it suits the narratives that outrage you:

1) YouTube is not being banned. The under-16 friendly version remains available. Content design for adults does not.

2) BlueSky has not been exempted. No definitive list has been published yet.

Social media was created for adults, not children. Over the years it has been used by more and more by children to access unsuitable, addictive and damaging content. Mental health issues in kids has accellerated sharply since they began regularly accessing this content, including a 50% rise in suicide rates over just 10 years.

If you are outraged by legislation designed to provide significant protection for children, then you are the problem, not the legislation.

Jimmy Carr nailed something a lot of us feel but can’t explain.

We’re living better than 99.9% of humans who ever walked the earth, hot showers, modern medicine, endless entertainment, kids that actually survive infancy, yet so many of us feel miserable.

He calls it “life dysmorphia.” We get used to how good we have it (the hedonic treadmill), then compare ourselves to everyone else and tank our own happiness.

As he puts it: happiness = quality of life minus envy.

This is the essence of it. Law enforcement were inclined to believe the mob ; rather than help the victim. They were inclined to believe an entire group of people who were coordinated rather than the single, vulnerable, dying individual ; they were inclined to see a gang of people as “the real victims” rather than the victim

It was because the victim couldn’t speak well (he was dying) and could barely move that they targeted him and handcuffed him. It’s bizarre to put the dying, incapacitated person in handcuffs and not listen to him and deny his last words, mocking him for saying he was stabbed; but an entire system had led to this. Years of training not to help the individual, not to assist and to listen to the people standing over him, the perpetrator

Until the system retrains people to protect individuals and protect the vulnerable this will keep happening. In the grooming gang cases the same thing happened. Young girls were dismissed and the masses of older male perpetrators were seen as victims and listened to. There is the case of the recent judge praising the teen rapists in another case, rather than care for the girl victims. It’s always the same pattern of a system that sees the quiet, vulnerable individual as the enemy and prefers the gang

Today is World Dracula Day, which marks the publication of the eponymous novel in 1897. However, Glasgow has its very own vampire story, which happened in the Gorbals area of the city in 1954, as commemorated by this mural from the Art Pistol Projects.

The good kids who actually want to learn.

They’re often the ones being silently bullied, distracted, intimidated, or forced to sit in chaos every day while administrators let it continue.

When a severely misbehaved student is suspended, it’s often a relief for the students trying to do the right thing, too.
